HBOWatch has already posted that the DC title LANTERNS is in production before its official announcement by HBO. An official press release has since been made, and the announcement and a picture accompanied it. Be warned, if you haven’t seen it yet, the graphic isn’t going to look like the Green Lantern Corps you expect, but it does give us a look at the characters, personified by Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre, on a mission. The presser states in full the following:
Production has commenced on the HBO Original drama series LANTERNS on the historic Warner Bros lot in Burbank. The series, an HBO Original production in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, is based on the iconic DC title “Green Lantern.”
Logline: The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Cast: Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.
Chris Mundy, executive producer and showrunner, quote: “From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion. The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”
Credits: HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The LANTERNS pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. Based on the DC comic “Green Lantern.”
Oh, yeah, the graphic –
Aww, is that the best you can do? Are you telling us the GL’s are not going to be supersuited in this version? And doesn’t Hal Jordan look a little gruff around the edges? Well, at least, if we look a bit closer, we see he is sporting the all-important ring. We’ll see how all this goes. Stick around for it.
