With not a lot of fanfare behind it, a simple notification that the highly anticipated HARRY POTTER series was now in production was dropped today. The coolest thing about it was the graphic of who was holding the first clapboard.
- Production has commenced on the HBO Original HARRY POTTER television series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. The series will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max where it’s available, including in upcoming launch markets Germany, Italy, and the UK.
- Newly announced cast: Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
- Newly announced department heads: Adriano Goldman (Director of Photography), Cate Hall (Hair and Makeup Designer), Paul Herbert (Stunt Coordinator), Mark Holt (SFX Supervisor), Mara LePere-Schloop (Production Designer), Naomi Moore (Set Decorator), John Nolan (Creature Effects Design Supervisor), Alexis Wajsbrot (VFX Supervisor), Dom Sidoli (VFX Producer), and previously announced Holly Waddington (Costume Designer).
- Credits: The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
J.K. Rowling, the controversial author of the source material, has passed on her blessings to the series by commenting, “I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!” When asked if she actually penned anything for the series, she stated, “No, but I’ve worked closely with the extremely talented writers.”
