If you pay attention to Hollywood patting itself on the back, then you know the Emmys were just presented. HBO & HBO Max garnered 30 awards, including Creative Emmys, tied for the most wins alongside Netflix. Here, via a press release, are the recipients from the 77th annual Emmy Awards, grouped by show.
- 9 wins for THE PENGUIN, including Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Cristin Milioti) and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup
Other awards given include for Hairstyling, Costume, Music Composition, Sound Editing & Sound Mixing. I wasn’t sure if our leads would win, so kudos to Milioti, but the Prosthetic Makeup award had to go to this show.
- 5 wins for THE PITT, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Noah Wyle), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Katherine LaNasa), Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Shawn Hatosy), and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series
I’m quite glad this series has received acclaim. THE PITT was a different sort of show for HBO in its episode commitment and format. Plus, that outstanding cast.
3 wins for HACKS, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Jean Smart), Outstanding
How about that win for the ladies of HACKS! That makes a fourth win for Jean Smart in that role.
- 3 wins for PEE-WEE AS HIMSELF, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program
The other win was for Picture Editing. Director Matt Wolf deserved this one, as Paul Reubens proved to be a bit uncooperative in getting this work made.
- 2 wins for “LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER, including Outstanding Scripted Variety Series and Outstanding Writing for a Scripted Variety Series
I’ve lost track of the wins here. Emmy # 5, I think.
2 wins for 100 FOOT WAVE, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series
Not only is it the best documentary series, and it is, but it also picked up Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program. Yeah, those monster waves need to be seen!
- 1 win for “SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeff Hiller)
I could not be any happier for Jeff Hiller. I’m so glad he got this!
- 1 win for CONAN O’BRIEN MUST GO for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special
Okay, that’s good. They’re not tiring of your off-beat humor.
- 1 win for THE WHITE LOTUS for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music
Well, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer won’t be winning another Emmy for this show, as he left the series after he and Mike White had a big clash of egos. Take the Emmy & run.
- 1 win for THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series
Yes, there is no question some of those stunts in the last season, and over the years for that matter, were pretty bonkers, yeah?
- 1 win for HOUSE OF THE DRAGON for Outstanding Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic)
Goodness, remember that show? It is getting to be just like EUPHORIA – barely within memory.
- 1 win for THE LAST OF US for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour)
Was it because of all the “clicking” or the blunt golf club whacks?
All shows are available to view on HBO Max.
