During their latest event, the powers that be at HBO announced that they have pushed A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS into early 2026. Okay. It is something we have to accept, but I wonder why they have done that. The series, taken from George RR Martin’s set of novellas about Sir Duncan and his squire Egg, was promised in promos to debut yet this year. Now, marketing for this GAME OF THRONES prequel has got to stretch out to Winter 2026, and we could use some new graphics or footage to tease us until then.
The show most likely has been moved to space out the bigger programs across the calendar better. Yet in 2025 we are expected to see THE GILDED AGE, which returns in June with its third season, but also there could/shouId be INDUSTRY Season 4, and new titles LANTERNS and IT: WELCOME TO DERRY. It makes sense for that latter title to run October into November after all, right? That places A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS for a January 2026 premiere, yeah? Makes perfect sense to me.
In fact, I hope a tight schedule is the reason for the shuffle and not some production holdup. Principal photography was completed for the GOT prequel back in the Fall of last year, but perhaps snags in post-production, like VFX, soundtrack, or even marketing, are not quite where they should be, and so they thought it safe to bump it down the slate a bit further. Yeah, no worries; it’s just due to a busy lineup, and that’s a good thing. But if it is for late production issues, remember we would rather have the show stamped with the HBO quality the brand calls for, and if that means waiting a bit longer for good content, then so be it. But hell, give us some new graphics or a Teaser for cryin’ out loud?
So, look for A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS in early 2026, with Season Three of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON a few months after that. By then, we will be in the midst of great times at HBO Max!
