HBO’s 2014 Labor Day Schedule

Even the world’s biggest and best premium cable network has to take some time off once in a while. We’re approaching a transition with HBO’s seasonal schedule where True Blood and The Leftovers are fading to black and Boardwalk Empire season 5 will take the stage.  But before The Leftovers finales HBO is taking a bit of a day off this Labor day weekend.

Friday night (August 29th) Jonah from Tonga will be NEW!  Episode 5 airs at its normal time: 10PM. Real Time with Bill Maher is not new but will return the following week, September 8th for a double helping at a special time.

Saturday night (August 30th) will kick things off with the cable premiere of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug at 8PM.

Sunday night (August 31st) the network will rest it’s flagship programs but The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey starts at 6PM followed by another airing of The Hobbit Part 2.  John Oliver’s program will not be new this night but will return on September 7th.

Monday night (September 1st) HBO is airing three episodes of the HBO series The Knick starring Clive Owen.  This means that there actually won’t be a new episode airing this Friday on Cinemax.  Episode 4 will air the following Friday (September 5th).

For those wondering, yes, there is another episode of The Leftovers season 1.  The finale will air after the premiere of Boardwalk Empire season 5 on September 7th at 10PM.
Feeling deprived still? Now is a great time to catch up on The Leftovers, The Knick, Jonah from Tonga or Boardwalk Empire season 4.  All are available on HBO Go, as always for online watching sessions.
