True-Blood-Cancelled-7

Well many of us thought this might happen!  True Blood has had a great run with millions of viewers tuning in every Sunday night these past 6 summers.  We know that many of you are saddened by this news and will likely be feeling rage, a sense of loss or maybe even betrayal.   True Blood has a longer than usual run on HBO.  And maybe we can all take solace in the fact that this might mean good things for the hopefully long-running Game of Thrones series and other potential HBO hits in the future.

Here’s the official word from HBO this morning:

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3, 2013 – The hit show TRUE BLOOD will end its run in 2014, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Consisting of ten episodes, the previously announced seventh season will launch next summer.

“TRUE BLOOD has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” noted Lombardo. “Alan Ball took [amazon_link id=”0441018238″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]the books by Charlaine Harris[/amazon_link], assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”

“From the moment I read Charlaine’s books, I thought there was potential for something really special,” says Alan Ball. “Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations. I’m deeply grateful to HBO for being true partners and collaborators, and, of course, to the viewers who chose to spend Sunday nights in Bon Temps with us.”

“I feel enormously proud to have been a part of the TRUE BLOOD family since the very beginning,” says Brian Buckner. “I guarantee that there’s not a more talented or harder-working cast and crew out there, and I’d like to extend a personal heartfelt thanks to them for their dedication and tenacity over the years, especially this past year, as I stepped into a larger role. Thank you also to HBO for their unwavering support and of course to Alan Ball, whose genius enabled all of us to share in this incredible journey. Finally, a huge thank you to the most passionate fans in television. As we take a final walk through Bon Temps together, we will do our very best to bring Sookie’s story to a close with heart, imagination and, of course, fun.”

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, TRUE BLOOD takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist, after vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source. The series follows waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård). Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy®-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under”) created the show, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

The sixth season of TRUE BLOOD, which concluded last month, inspired critical raves, with the Boston Herald praising the show for “suspense, surprises and crackling dialogue,” while US Weekly noted that the show’s “cheeky humor and vivid imagination are still there to relish,” and the New York Post called it “bloody hilarious.” With an average gross audience of 10.6 million viewers per episode, the show remains one of HBO’s most popular series.

True Blood Season 7 will premiere in summer 2014 and end there. No word about how many episodes it will include given this year’s reduced number. Throw us an HBO movie in 2015 or something, HBO?  We’ll talk about that when the time comes :)  Until then [amazon_link id=”B00EIL7E9C” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]go reserve season 6 on Blu Ray[/amazon_link] and prepare yourself for the finale!

I had true blood DVDS for a while, never really like the storyline because I was blindsided by the nudity but when I got passed that I was hooked and personally as they say all good things must come to an end so a grater good may come forth, I think it had a perfect send off and I applaud the cast and crew behind true blood. Thank you for an amazing adventure.

What a lot of people aren’t grasping is that it’s not solely HBO’s decision to cut True Blood. A lot of the actors are ready to move on and in some interviews even mentioned wanting to do so. Keeping the show going against their wishes is selfish on our part. People don’t act well when they’re not wanting to.

It especially disturbs me to hear people say ‘True Blood is my life’. That’s unfortunate; life shouldn’t revolve on a TV show. After all, they’re cancelled constantly, they don’t last forever, and in the end they are just humans pretending to be something else. That’s why it’s dangerous to get that involved. Plans change, people change, and being reliant on a TV show means being reliant on hundreds of other people.

HBO will take on another supernatural show and that will become the next big thing, and everyone will move onto that. True Blood will eventually become a DVD boxset in a bin; not because it’s a bad show, but because everyone will move on to something else.

From what I’ve gathered, the reason for the shortened season last year and the ending of the show with a season 7, is the birth of Anna’s and Stephen’s twins. They want to spend some time with them and who could blame the new parents? Don’t we all enjoy spending time with our families? Ture Blood is a great show and we will all miss it, but we can’t have it without Sookie and Bill.

As for the show being quite different from the novels, I expected it. After season 2, the writers kind of went in their own direction. Fans of the books will fight the television rendition. But those who didn’t read the books, like my husband, quite enjoy the show the way it is. I wish it could be continued. We all enjoyed our romps in Bon Temps, getting away from reality on Sunday night in the summer and spending it with our favorite telepath, vampires, and werewolves. We’ll all just have to find another way to indulge our fantasies and imaginations.

I suppose all good things must come to an end sooner or later, but…PLEASE MAKE “TRUE BLOOD” LATER! HBO is making a terrible mistake by doing so due to such a large fan base. Of course, perhaps the actors have other venues they wish to pursue. If so, then many thanks to each and every one of them for entertaining us so well and keeping us bewitched for so long. Oh, how I will personally miss Eric, Sookie, Bill, Jason, Pam, Tara, Arlene, Jessica and all the others who help to make it a fun ride. *Sigh*

This is just sad. The only reason I have HBO at all is because of the True Blood series. I would really be nice if HBO would reconsider and make it through all of the books that True Blood is based on. Oh well, every good thing must come to an end, and so will my subscription to HBO when the final episode is aired.

Some say they love it, some say the writing has gotten tired and they’re pulling long shots. Well I have some evidence that proves my point: 1. I have never seen them take the easy way out on script writing not even once, (ex. Walking Dead went lazy on Andrea’s exit, who stops to get themselves free, while talking to someone who is turning? It was the laziest writing I have ever seen.) I’ve never seen one instance where True Blood has taken the lazy way out.

2. They have relevance in their writing: From religion to politics, to dealing with loss and conveying that ordeal and emotion in such true form. To being able to accept one’s self and trucking through the difficulties in life, whether it be dealing with the horrors of war time, or finding out you have a new talent. Layfette coming to terms with being a medium, Sookie finally accepting her fairy lineage, this show really takes you through the progression, (heart, mind and soul) of some really dynamic characters. 3. The relevance of their topics, I will never forget that one line, Layfette says “Nothing good happens when you hear those drums”. You really need to pay attention to every bit of dialogue to really get how deep this show goes. That’s my challenge to those who think this show is played out. Watch it again and don’t miss one word. They’ve always kept relevant with current events, with the way the world is going, this show in my opinion has more material than ever to keep going.

Well said I will really miss this show, they would kill people off and move on while other shows try to drag things out or have the character doing things a normal person wouldn’t do. The writing on this show was excellent Goodbye true blood and duces hbo

Like wise, thanks Robin for your comment. I’ve spoken with quite a few people about True Blood and it amazes me how so many view this as mindless entertainment. I feel like saying take the wax outta your ears folks. I can’t believe how so many don’t even realize how deep this show goes or even see the relevance of the writing and dialogue.

After True Blood season 7 is over, I will cancel HBO. Why take such a great show and bring it to an end? Keep it going. Pam is my favorite character on the show. If anyone dies, Bill should meet his true death. Tara should turn Sookie just for her decision to play God with Tara’s life. I love the show, I hate to see this end, and I truly hope Eric wins in the end, he has a heart.

pleasepleasepleaseplease at least go out with a bang on a season 10. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most beautiful, funny and creative TV shows I watched, and adored, in my opinion. I almost cried when it finished; the feeling when you must disconnect yourself from such an exciting and interesting world. When I happened upon True Blood, I instantly felt the same pull and admiration that I had for Buffy’s cast, story lines, etcetera. The actors in True Blood are beautifully portraying the characters, Anna Paquin is a-m-a-z-i-n-g, as is Sookie’s character. Her connection with Eric and Bill, and everyone else. Bill’s just so badass. I have so much love for Tara. All of the characters are just too interesting to say goodbye to at season 7! It seems there is so much to the world of True Blood. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride, and I would hate to see it go so soon. But so be it if it does! I am keeping my fingers crossed for more seasons, though. Bravo, True Blood, Bravo!

Suggestions Sherilyn Kenyon’s, “Dark Hunters” Series, or Kresely Cole’s, “The Immortal’s After Dark” Series, that would be awesome!

It was a great show but it’s time has come. My husband and I have watched it religiously since the first episode but even we have found ourselves disappointed more and more. This is a good decision. If not, it’s going to end with people not tuning in anyway because it sucks. Let it end on a higher note. To those of you that “live” for the show. The actors are going to move on with their lives after its over and I suggest you do the same. It’s been a WAY bigger part of their lives then yours. If they can move on then you can too.

It’s not really about the books, it was entertaining, just like with game of thrones, yes ive read the books, but I like the writer’s spin as well, because it’s entertaining, not some documentary. I’m glad true blood didn’t follow the books exactly, because we wouldn’t have had Lafayette after season 1 and he’s one of my favorite characters.

I read some of your comments and it probably never occurred to you that the books also ended. I have the entire series and the last one came out this year. I see where someone said Eric got burned up. That never happened in the books. How this writer can take such incredible books and shred them like he did is a mystery. He could have stuck to them as close as he could and still made it presentable for TV but he strayed so far from them that the only thing he kept was the names of the characters. That’s why I quit watching it.

True Blood is an epic series and to end it now is foolish. HBO will loose many subscribers over this, as well as prevent others who would subscribe just to watch this series. True Blood is the only reason I watch HBO and without it I have no reason to continue at this time. Good luck with the drop in ratings and I hope HBO realizes before it is too late that this series should continue. I would enjoy seeing it continue as a series but they should at least continue it in a multi-movie series that will extend the plot and provide a suitable if regretable ending.

Reply
Roger February 1, 2014 - 10:16 pm

I think it’s funny John, when people think HBO will lose subscribers when they cancel a show. Not really. They have millions of subscribers! The few 100 that they might lose are nothing and you never know, some of them might even try and watch Game of Thrones and fall in love with that show. They are a huge Company for a reason

Reply

I don’t think HBO really cares about the fans they lose over this TBH because they still have the subscribers for shows like Girls, Looking, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones who have just as many if not more followers/shippers/subscribers. It is sad though that the show started off so great and just kind of lost its footing. It wil be missed, but in my opinion its time for it to go.

After reading the books I stopped watching True Blood. It was two different stories altogether. I didn’t even recognize seasons two and three compared to the books. If they had been truer to the books, the show would have been 100% better. I know this will make a lot of you mad but for those who have read the books, I think you might agree with me.

I completely and totally agree with you. I tried to watch some last season but think I only made it through one or two episodes. It definately strayed to far from the books.

ABSOLUTELY NOT Angeli, with all due respect to your good intention, HBO has already decided to cancel after season 7 is over, there won’t be a season 8 so what I’m going to do now is cancel goddamn HBO NOW to save money and stream True Blood online when season 7 is on for freeeee …

disappointed January 8, 2014 - 9:14 am

People doing this is probably contributed to hbo canceling the series. can’t have everything for free. production and actors cost money and after all tv is all about making money not entertaining their fans.

— Season 6, last episode on the closing scene, a pack of new
risen vamps suddenly appeared in the woods while a background
music plays with the lyrics saying… “Welcome to the new age, to
the new age…” an Electro-Alternative “kinda” type of song.
Season 7 would be a mixed up of scenes progressed from
previous ones but with a new twist.

HERE’S I WOULD LIKE TO SEE in SEASON 7.

Since Eric got him self toasted while reading a book totally
naked under the Sun somewhere on a mountain top full of snow (tho
not sure if he really died since he’s one tough motha effin’
vamp) and Bill and the others (Pam, Tara etc.) got out of the
cell I think forming a new Vampire league led by Bill along
with Jessica would spice up the episodes and this time the league is
more powerful since Bill possesses Lilith’s blood no one will dare
challenge him tho he’ll have a lot of issues to deal with as he manages
the League while tensions between the Government and Vamps
continues to heat up and and causes a lot of chaos in Bon Temps.
To make the “chaos” more interesting Sarah Newlin will comeback
(again) to continue her advocacy against the vamps (being on the
Government side) and still want to get even with Jason. Alcide Hervaux,
now leader of the Wolf pack will have a lot of interesting issues to deal
with in his pack too including his relation with the new Vamp
league and issues with the Shifters and, adding vulnerable
Sookie to the scene makes it more interesting.

I think the late episodes would be more interesting if Eric comes
back and manages to stay alive despite of getting him self
toasted under the Sun and he’ll help the new Vamp league to
ease the serious tensions and chaos going on between the
Government and the Vamp league by kidnapping Sarah Newlin
and tuning him into a vamp (now that’s something to see eh) :-)
A lot of things can happen and with that i think its gonna be one
nice long bloody season 7 for us to watch. :-) lol.

Oh and PS : ( yea Im the Angeli Becerra person who just wrote down a book, I just signed in haha ) so yea ps ; After so many years of awaiting, making warlow being impatient wasn’t really smart… The guy waited for so long how the hell could he – smart powerful creature who spents its existence wainting for Sookie – lose control and screw up everything. So yea.. Making him come back seems to be the best thing to do to balance with this crazy uncredibility.

It may seem like I’m talking a lot about Warlow, but well, it is because his death is the most stupud thing ever in the show. Oh and we should have more matters about Jessica & her new guy, and also about Lafayette and Holy, her wicca thing can be really usefull to make up some stories. Hey, she could become a powerful witch by drinking somehow a fairy blood (sooookeeeh) and bring Eric back to life ! ( or who ever is IMPORTANT to be back to life in the show).
Alright I stop.
Forgive my english people, I come from..well, somewhere else than an english speaking country hehe :P
Let’s pray for True Blood now.

Hi HBO ( yea you there ), if you ever dreamt of meeting a genius who could save your show : Hey ho hello! Nice to meet you! Ok, presentations done. Now, Listen carefully to the freaking brilliant ideas I’m about to give you to make a great 8 season! ( yes 8, which will occurs after the 7- which will not be the final one ). I won’t ask for money I promise ;) Just keep the show on our tvs. SO ; first of all kiliing Warlow whereas he was a lot more stronger and ancient and hotter than Russel when Russel lived through so many seasons was really ..unlogical. Warlow is Sookie’s souls sister as the fairy light claims it, he is hot, is an hybrid (which is a new in the show) and is freaking mysterious as you killed him before we got to know him, you know ? HEre’s my first idea ; We saw him turning into Dust, but what about inventing some magical rule ? Like ; By stabbing him in the heart it only killed his vampirish side and so it made him disappear and be locked in the Fairy World ( the world you enter on the cimetery ) ! See ? ” Stabbing my heart did kill the vampire in me, Sookeeeh, but my light couldn’t be that easily shot sown ” would Warlow say to Sookie in a deep all brand new im a nice guy now voice when she ‘d for some reason I let you choose enter the Fairy world again ! And, he would move earth and skies to make her forgive him for his violent moments on season 6th justyfing it by some naked truth like ” I waited for you XXX XXX XXX years stuck in another dimension, you know it drove me crazy and kinda psychologically destroyed a part of me, but now that I re-born as a fairy I have my mind clear!” see ? And OF COURSE SOOKIE will forgive just like she forgave Bill and Eric for their numerousous murders ! AND thennn.. Sure.. Sookie would find a way to get Warlow a vampire to come to the fairy world and turn him again into a vampire ( yea because first of all he got to stay strong and sexy, and second of all as his light is very weak after having been killed as a vampire he needs to be vampire again to go back to the real world, and ooof course he will accept because this is the only way for him to go out of the fairy world !). Ok, now that we solved the Warlow problem ( YES§ BEcause Dear HBO THIS IS ABIG PROBLEM ! you cannot kill a freaking powerfull hybrid who s sookie s soul mate just like that in a few episodes, that s ridiculous ). Alright let’s move on to Eric. Seriously, Eric diying ? No. Hell ; no. Eric is like the best caracter in this show you cannot kill Eric alright ? So you find a way to make Eric come back to life, like I dont know let’s say a beautiful human girl run towards him with a blanket okay ? yes sir, in the sweden mountains, who cares ? And then, you give him back his power, his sexyness, his authority and his place in Sookie’s life ! Then, I reallllyyyy recommand you to NOT rush ! This show could have been a huge huge HUGE Perfection, but with Warlow’s death, Eric’s death, and with Sookie-Alcide-couple-thingy, you ruined it ! But Dooonnt worry ;) Take my ideas, and this show can, just like a phoenix, reborn from its dust, alright ? Byt the way, Alice is defenitely the best friend just like Sam. Pick either ERic or Warlow for Sookie, not even Bill ! no.. don’t you dare pick the boring one for our fairy, alright ? Okay so now about the plooooot !
I don’t know HBO, I don’t know… Make your magic works a bit, that’s your job not mine. Well, It would one day as I crave for becoming a writer and scenarist but still for now im a freaking student and you rule the thing so hey, do your thing. Maybe a Romance between Warlow and Sookie could stard and maybe as Warlow is an hybrid he could get Sookie pregnant, and this baby would be like a super hybrid with weird particularities which will makje the whole world want to get it. That could be a whole season. You have so much to do only with Warlow ! So imagine with all the caracters seriously. Alright then, maybe you could do a WereWolf-shifters coming out season too. And blabalbah.
I hope from the deepest of my heart that somehow my ideas will reach, via some spiritual mysterious paths, your minds guys. Cause yea I know noone will read this haha. Still have hope somehow some of these ideas reach your minds.

This makes me want to SCREAM! There is too much you didn’t do! You could have expanded a bit longer on Jasons love interest, you barely gave anything to Warlow! That could have been a season on its own as well as the vampire camps. Where the hell is Erik? Poor Terry! How could you do that to one of the best characters of the show. Sam could have gotten more time and Tara just became a vampire why the hell would you not give us more especially now that Pam is becoming more likable. HBO this was a very ignorant decision. Bill looks even younger than when he started so if its the “vampires don’t age thing” well sorry but screwed up there. Sookie was too skinny and too serious in Season 6. Fatten her up and give her a happy ending. FYI even if you lost some of the characters like Sookie and Bill you could keep on going with Taras, Jasons, Erik and Pam, and for the love of God Lafayettes story. this 7 series shit sucked. It could have been a huge seasonal hit if you would have sticked with it. Just like Angel. You all are a bunch of whine ass pussies. Yes I am pissed, betrayed, and feeling like coming down to HBO to kick some ass.

she had a baby, actually 2! Twins, then she worked real hard to get back to pre baby weight. Sure she perhaps over shot it. it is very sad that they will finish off true blood!! as this was the best story from all vampire movies, programs! and hats off to the original writers and to the casts crew who made us fall in love with the each individual characters and the director with their imaginations and the rest of the crew who made this possible to be loved in a different light, I found each season was very unique especially when they gave you the moment to understand all characters differently, it was amazing to see both sides of the coin (good side and evil) for every character, I felt there was some home truth involved in all sides of relationships, which made the program more realistic then a bore with cliché, and I agree if this program is to finish then they should consider to extend to as many episodes possible and if not then come back, like how they made vampire diaries to the originals.
They made this program for people to become addicts where passion is flying in the air and we have no choice but to take every breath as if its the last, I guess why a lot people finding it hard to let go!!
I have watched other programs like game of thrones but it is not the same its the characters in true blood that are very unique and easily to fall in love!
I watched true blood once and I was sucked in but with games of thrones vampire diaries and other programs it took a while to get into.
will feel very weird when it will not be coming on no more and it will devise as another box set on shelves to collect dust!!
hope hbo and all the members in the program will reconsider to end a gold mine

In all my years of watching HBO series True Blood is my favorite of all times and will always be my favorite and its also more than 10 million other people’s favorite to. How could this be the END? I know if I was working with HBO, I know that getting rid of True Blood is really going to hurt HBO. I seriously hope they change their mind by the time season 7 will be coming to a close. Gosh, I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around how season 7 will be the end. Makes me want to cry and throw a fit! What an awesome, awesome, group of actors and actress’s. like I said this has been my favorite show of all time and nothing will ever replace True Blood. Nothing. Bringing the end so soon sucks.

They hould have left Warlow an option to return,
Lillith too.

Eric should return.

Pam should not die.

Bill should regain Lilliths power and become more
ruthless, he was reborn by her blood.

Zombie vampires are good. But some more evil should
uprise.

Ending the show wouldn’t be accepted.

I recently quietly watched all six seasons on demand and told no one about it. I watched season one three years ago and had no interest in it whatsoever. I thought it was boring. If I was going to continue to embarrass myself watching True Blood, it had to be about more than a girl falling in love with a vampire. After deciding to give season two a chance and then quickly watching every single episode after, I must say, I love this show. I am, however, disappointed that the finale season will focus on a Sookie, Alcide, Bill love triangle. That sounds boring again. I’m nervous that the show is going in a different direction as it ends than it should be. I no longer really care about Sookie’s love life and am sick of love triangles. I love Jason’s character development and I love seeing Tarra develop as a vampire. As far as Sookie goes, I’d rather see her focus on one relationship and develop that so that it feels genuine. And quite honestly, I’d like that to be Eric. He’s the most dimensional character on the show. Oh well. Guess we’ll just have see what happens next summer.

It’s sad to see the show leave the air but I kind of get the feeling the True Blood front runners knew this during comic con and kept it hush. There is going to be a lot of loose ends, questions, and more outrage. I hope they have a spin off series or a mini episode planned to at least show the fans they appreciate our dedication to the show as much as they claim. I think when Alan Ball left the show in the state it was in they should have stopped him from having anything further to do with it.

I seem to be in the minority in that I HATED the first three seasons of True Blood, especially season 2 (“Hey, lets have an orgy as a major plot point! That fill be fun, right guys!… guys?”), and thought that season 4-6 were are vast improvement. So I will be sad to see True Blood go.

However, as for season 7 being the final season, this is fitting in perfectly with my prediction. I think HBO’s plan is to continue developing American Gods over the next few months and then give it a series order next year so that it can replace True Blood in 2015 (or possibly 2016 with a miniseries filling in the gap in 2015).

Kind of sad-but-not-sad about this. The last two seasons (well, season 4 was also a bit disappointing) have been lacking when compared to season 1-3. It will definitely be a classic in the future, but, for now, the true death for “True Blood” is probably a good thing.

IMDB is already reporting that there will be 10 Episodes aired next season.

All I can say to this is THANK THE GODS.

“…crafting a spectacular sixth season…” A Spectacular failure. Season 6 of True Blood was the worst season of TV I have ever watched in 25 years of being alive to watch TV.

The story lines were too predictable, the characters all fell flat. The only redeeming grace was Alexander Skarsgard’s performances.

Good riddance.

This does not suprise me in the least. When they announced that TRUE BLOOD was going ‘back to basics” for Season Seven I thought it might be one more nail in the coffin.

Seven Seven should be a quite interesting indeed. TRUE BLOOD as a series is a worthy one to soon be labeled an HBO Classic.

A classic indeed! One of HBO’s biggest, no doubt.

Making way for American Gods is my guess.
