HBO to Produce Doc Holiday Western Series

220px-Doc_hollidayDeadwood fans rejoice!   HBO will be back in the saddle soon with an all new series focused on the imfamous Doc Holliday of US western lore.  Ron Howard is said to be directing the project with no word yet on who will eventually wear the black hat.  The project is said to be in the extremely early stages so we probably won’t see a premiere date that falls within 2012.

In case you aren’t familiar with Mr. Holiday’s antics here’s a brief summary from Wikipedia:

John Henry “Doc” Holliday (August 14, 1851 – November 8, 1887) was an American gamblergunfighter and dentist of the American Old West, who is usually remembered for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The legend and mystique of his life is so great that he has been mentioned in several books, and portrayed by various actors in numerous movies and television series. For the 100-plus years since his death, debate has continued about the exact crimes he may have committed during his life.”

Akiva Goldsman, the writer of the new series is credited with penning the feature film versions of Dan Brown’s novels including The Da Vinci Code.  Hes also won the Academy Award for writing A Beautiful Mind in 2001. We’ll let you know when we know more about the new Doc Holiday series coming to HBO!
