We didn’t see this coming, that is a new series slipping into late-night. Okay, 11:00 pm isn’t that late, but it is past the considered primetime hours. Anyhow, we have a title called IT’S FLORIDA, MAN. debuting FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18 at 11:00 pm ET. This half-hour bit will air weekly over six weeks and also be available on Max.

Rough House Pictures, responsible for many a Danny McBride series (EASTBOUND AND DOWN, VICE PRINCIPALS, and THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES) helps to man this production. It was created & produced by Mark Herwick for Range Studios and Jeff Tomsic, who also directs.

As we look at its trailer, all I can say about IT’S FLORIDA, MAN. is that it looks eccentric and quite oddball. Take a look…

From the press release regarding, we learn…

this irreverent late-night comedy series brings to life unbelievable ripped-from-the-headlines tales of the Sunshine State – straight from the people who live there. Featuring interviews from everyday Floridians and playful recreations starring a rotating cast of actors and comedians, including Anna Faris, Jake Johnson, Randall Park, Juliette Lewis, Sam Richardson, Ego Nwodim, and more, this hilarious and outrageous series sheds light on the viral, wacky, and weird. Covering diverse topics – from mermaids to witches, extreme fantasies, and feral bunnies with equal parts humor and heart, IT’S FLORIDA, MAN. is a love letter to the beaches, backwaters, and especially the people of a misunderstood yet magical state. More than two dozen guest stars will make special appearances throughout the series.

So, if we try to wrap our minds around this a bit IT’S FLORIDA MAN. starts to make some sense. I think what happens here is that real Floridians are interviewed about something unique to their state. Then comedians flesh out that notion in an oddball comedic routine that takes that whole notion to a state of absurdity. For example, it looks like a present/former mermaid of the actual Weeki Wachee Mermaid show is interviewed and then Anna Faris gets hold of the concept and spins it insanely out of proportion. Yeah, something like that.

So, after REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER, you can take a skewed look at Florida beginning on the 18th. After all, after a double whammy from hurricanes, the state could use some lovin’.
