Those of us who follow television news closely are also tasked with keeping tags on all of the awards that get thrown around this industry. There are a lot of behind the scenes politics, backroom dealings and personal biases that keep a show like Game of Thrones from being awarded top prizes. Some have even accused the show of having been snubbed.

But this season of Game of Thrones may be different. Internally the show is being called the best season ever and if ratings are any indication: it is. With all of the great work being done on the show perhaps the problem is often that it’s tough to place all of that awesomeness onto one name.

Do you award Peter Dinklage again? What about Charles Dance this year? The show seems quite overdue for Best Drama but going against True Detective this year along with the normal slew of hard hitters is going to be a tough wall to scale.

All of that having been said we wanted to bring you the names HBO has put fourth this year to win Emmy Awards. Of course, other names could be pulled from the ether by the voters but these are the ones that the network is submitting with full “for your consideration” attire:

Acting: Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Natalie Dormer, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington

Writing: David Benioff and Dan Weiss for the season finale: “The Children”

Directing“The Children” (Alex Graves), last week’s Castle Black mega-battle “The Watchers on the Wall” (Neil Marhsall) and “The Laws of Gods and Men” (the Tyrion trial episode directed by Alik Sakharov)

If it were up to us every actor and every episode would win an award but alas, we’ll probably have to settle for just one of these names above taking home the gold. We’ll cover the Emmys and other awards as we do every year. We hope that by the end of however many seasons Game of Thrones runs that we see the entire cast up there to accept a best drama award.  Keep watching and maybe it will happen someday.

How did HBO come up with these names for Emmy nods? They just pulled
them randomly out of a hat, right? Benioff and Weiss for best writing
for the season finale? I find that
hard to believe. That was one of the most disjointed, slapped-together
episodes of the season. And Sophie Turner for best actress? She has no
range. She plays every scene the same. Daenerys’s CGI dragons show more
emotion. Now if there was an Emmy category for “Best Outrageous
Fanficton Adaptation From an Original Work,” well then, yes, Benioff
& Weiss’s version of Game of Thrones would definitely win the award!

Are you kidding me? Sophie Turner and Kit Harrington, but not Rory McCann or Aidan Gillen, Gwendoline Christie or Alfie Allen? Benioff and Weiss for The Children? That was one of the worst episodes we’ve seen yet! HBO must be out of their minds!
