If you watched the 75th Golden Globes event (we did not) or saw the buzz after the fact (which we did) you already know that Oprah Winfrey stole the show, but in her shadow HBO did get awarded a few of those chunky Foreign Press baubles and lost out on some also. Here via an official press release is the win column.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8, 2018 – HBO received 4 Golden Globe Awards for BIG LITTLE LIES, the most of any network or platform, at the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards, which were presented yesterday in Los Angeles.
HBO’s Golden Globe wins for BIG LITTLE LIES include: Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television; Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Nicole Kidman); Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Alexander Skarsgård); and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Laura Dern).
That is great news for BIG LITTLE LIES as it moves into a surprise second season. Not so lucky on snagging a Golden Globe, though included GAME OF THRONES losing to The Handmaid’s Tale for Best Drama; Maggie Gyllenhaal (THE DEUCE) losing out to Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) Robert De Niro (THE WIZARD OF LIES) losing out to Ewan McGregor (Fargo) and Issa Rae (INSECURE) lost to Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
We’ve stated it before and will say it again that we don’t keep track of every Hollywood awards event as it seems like that crowd obsessively praises itself far too often, but since this the first award ceremony of the year and a long standing one at that we take exception. Now go watch BIG LITTLE LIES again!
