HBO Nabs Twenty Three 2012 Primetime Emmys

Julia-Emmyu-212x300LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24, 2012 – HBO received 23 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most of any network for the 11th year in a row, in the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards competition. “Game of Thrones” received 6 awards, tied for the most of any program, while “Game Change” received 5 awards.

HBO’s Emmy wins this year include:

* 6 Emmys for “Game of Thrones,” including Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series (tie with “Boardwalk Empire”); Outstanding Costumes for a Series; Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour); and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.

* 5 Emmys for “Game Change,” including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie (Julianne Moore); Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Jay Roach); Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special (Danny Strong); and Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special.

* 4 Emmys for “Boardwalk Empire,” including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Tim Van Patten); Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series (tie with “Game of Thrones”); Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series; and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.

* 2 Emmys for “George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” including Outstanding Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming (Martin Scorsese).

*  2 Emmys for “Hemingway and Gellhorn,” including Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special.

* 1 Emmy for “Curb Your Enthusiasm”: Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series.

* 1 Emmy for “Girls”: Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series.

* 1 Emmy for “2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony”: Outstanding Picture Editing for Short-Form Segments and Variety Specials.

* 1 Emmy for “Veep”: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).

HBO Watch would like to extend a warm congratulations to all of the winners this year!  Fans looking for big wins in Best Comedy Series or Best Drama Series will have to wait for next year.  It’s a tough field these days.  Keep on doing what you do HBO magic-makers!

HBO Dominates again! Tons of competition in Top Drama/Comedy this year but pretty happy with the haul.
