HBO & Max received a total of 91 Emmy nominations across 28 original programs for the upcoming 76th annual Emmy Awards. It is the first time since 1996 that the brand has not taken the most nominations. Netflix has the top numbers with 107 nominations due to Baby Reindeer and The Crown with FX at second with 93 due to Shōgun and The Bear. HBO’s big honors went to TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY and Max’s HACKS. Via an official press release from WBD here is the listing of nominations for HBO & Max, with my comments added in color:

19 nominations for TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY –

True-Detective4_Title

  • Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series
  • Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Jodie Foster)
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (John Hawkes)
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Kali Reis)
  • Outstanding Directing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie (Issa López)

These nominations are nice to see. It all bodes well for the TRUE DETECTIVE continuation under López. I would have been shocked if Foster hadn’t been nominated. It is greater to see Reis on the list and Hawkes was never nominated individually for DEADWOOD, so maybe he is due.
