HBO Introduces Us to MY BRILLIANT FRIEND Season 4

MyBrilliantFriend-S4FirstLookSo, if you are a follower of MY BRILLIANT FRIEND on HBO you know that the story takes place across decades. Therefore, in this final season of the work, we see our leads Lila and Elena age yet again. With that comes new actors to the roles. It is way too early to see the season on the schedule as it is still filming in Italy, but this accompanying image heralds the arrival of the new season and the new cast.

On the left is Irene Maiorino as Lila Cerullo and in glasses is Alba Rohrwacher as Elena Greco. Also appearing is Fabrizio Gifuni as Nino Sarratore. Of course, these actors are not familiar to us as this is an Italian production with Italian artists. MY BRILLIANT FRIEND is created by Saverio Costanzo. An HBO-RAI Series, the fourth season is based on the bestselling novel “My Brilliant Friend: The Story Of The Lost Child,” the fourth book of the quadrilogy by Elena Ferrante. This season is directed by Laura Bispuri and executive produced by Saverio Costanzo, Paolo Sorrentino, Jennifer Schuur, Elena Recchia, and Guido De Laurentiis. The critically acclaimed, global hit drama has traveled to over 170 territories including HBO here in the U. S.

The piece is the tale of Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life. She met Raffaella Cerullo, whom she has always called Lila, in the first year of primary school in 1950. Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives and explores the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend and – in a way – both her best friend and her worst enemy.

Vogue claimed there is “simply no more beautifully produced series on TV right now” in regards to Season Three. The fourth and final season will, no doubt, be as wonderful and will, no doubt, dwell on the hardships of Elena and Lila and their need for each other. Fans await Season Four.

    1. Production is underway on the Ferrante work, so anything we say is just a guess. If we are lucky, we may see it this Fall, but likely plan for it around this time in 2024. We will pass on any knowledge going forward.
