THE GILDED AGE was the only big, dramatic series for July, carrying over from its June premiere, until we got news of RAGE. It is an HBO International work out of Spain. We lift the facts straight from a press release and offer its trailer:

The new HBO Original series RAGE (FURIA) will debut globally on the platform with two episodes on FRIDAY, JULY 11, followed by new episodes weekly. Created and directed by Félix Sabroso and produced in Spain by Producciones Mandarina, the series brings together five actresses on screen together for the first time: Carmen Machi, Candela Peña, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza and Pilar Castro. Additional cast includes Claudia Salas, Alberto San Juan, Ana Torrent, Claudia Roset, Mima Riera, Pedro Casablanc, Marilu Marini, Iván Pellicer, Francesc Garrido, Martxelo Rubio and Pepón Nieto, among others.

RAGE is a contemporary portrait around five women: five female characters who lead this surprising, realistic and intense drama. Five women ready to do anything in the face of extreme situations such as extortion, oppression, deceit, exclusion or manipulation in a single shared universe articulated around five conflicts that will develop like a butterfly effect – one as a consequence of the other – and so on to shared catharsis. A kaleidoscopic portrait of the current social moment with high doses of irony and humor.

Marga (Carmen Marchi) is a snobbish artist. Roberto (Alberto San Juan), her husband, a television director, is involved with Tina (Claudia Salas), the maid, and has got her pregnant. Vera (Pilar Castro), Marga’s friend, is a media-loving cook who has to close her business because of the sickness of an incisive critic. Nat (Candela Peña) is a high fashion shop assistant. Marga and Vera are her clients. Nat is threatened when the company changes its staff and hires younger people. Adela (Nathalie Poza), Tina’s mother, is unemployed and is about to be evicted, along with her elderly mother, by her cruel landlord. Victoria (Cecilia Roth), Adela and Nat’s neighbour, is a forgotten actress from the erotic cinema of the 70s. Victoria receives an offer that could be her comeback, but in fact it is a deception. These five women go to the limit and perpetrate revenge, but not even they are spared in this contemporary satire.

RAGE, a series of eight 30-minute episodes, is created and directed by Félix Sabroso. Alberto Carullo, Antonio Trashorras, David Ocaña and José María Caro are the executive producers for Max. Santi Botello and Tedy Villalba Jr. are executive producers for Producciones Mandarina.

Now, we know not everyone is into international content. We know some have no tolerance for subtitles, and that there are plenty of people who think production value from other countries is somehow subpar. But I can tell you that over the years I have watched some great HBO international content, some unfortunately that have sadly been removed from Max. If THE GILDED AGE isn’t enough to hold your attention in July, now might be a great time to take on a foreign show.

What drives women to a point of rage? Find out when RAGE debuts on July 11 with a total of eight 30-minute installments. You might just surprise yourself.
