cumberbatch-hall-300x148HBO has officially green lit Padre’s End, a World War I drama that will star Benedict Cumberbatch (Soldier, The Hobbit) as well as Rebecca Hall (The Prestige, The Town) with Academy Award winning writer, Tom Stoppard (Shakespere in Love, Brazil) penning the script.  Based on the novel by Ford Madox Ford originally published in the 20’s.  “A complex and destructive love triangle among a conservative English aristocrat (Cumberbatch), his beautiful but cruel socialite wife (Hall), and a vibrant young suffragette.”

There is a third lead female character who has yet to be identified but will be of the same age as both Cumberbatch and Hall.  Here is the description of the source material itself (the novel):

“Published in four parts between 1924 and 1928, his extraordinary novel centers on Christopher Tietjens, an officer and gentleman-”the last English Tory”-and follows him from the secure, orderly world of Edwardian England into the chaotic madness of the First World War. Against the backdrop of a world at war, Ford recounts the complex sexual warfare between Tietjens and his faithless wife Sylvia. A work of truly amazing subtlety and profundity, Parade’s End affirms Graham Greene’s prediction: “There is no novelist of this century more likely to live than Ford Madox Ford.”

HBOWatch will report on details as we get them.
