Are you the type of person who thinks The Leftovers is just “too straghtforward”? Well, you might enjoy the mind games that HBO is playing with fans who are eager for any and all news about their upcoming series: Westworld starring… well, everybody.  And by everybody we mean: Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachel Wood and more!  Need more convincing?  How about Jonathan Nolan and J.J Abrams at the helm?  Okay, you’re in– good.

Some have been worried about HBO’s 2015 schedule with Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom and True Blood all going dark in the coming year. Westworld was dubbed “Hollywood’s Hottest Project” and most assumed it would be green lit eventually but we just weren’t sure when it would actually make it to air.  Today HBO teased us with this mind-bender:

Westworld: 2015.

That’s all we needed to know, HBO. We have no idea what that image means or is but we’re satisfied with that date.

They also tweeted this cryptic image which apparently means something to Westworld fans out there?
WestWorld

But the big news here is this: Westworld has a premiere date and it’s— in 2015!  This show could realistically be taking True Blood’s spot in the summer OR Boardwalk Empire’s spot in the fall. With the production slowdowns on True Detective one or the other series will take those slots.  Couple this with Scorsese’s new Music Drama set to premiere in 2015 and all three major holes are plugged in the HBO schedule. You aren’t in love with these series yet but if we know HBO (and yes, we do) you’re going to.

Want another taste?  Here’s some wagons and code and cowboys for ya:

We’ll update you with a more exact air date for Westworld when we have it.

Westworld was one of the most enthralling and creepy sci-fi films I have ever seen. That theme begs for a modern overhaul!

When it comes to drama air dates, I’m currently thinking it will likely be:

Winter:
[Nothing]
Spring:
Game of Thrones (of course)
Summer:
True Detective & The Leftovers
Autumn:
Westworld
Winter 2016:
The Might Eighth, while they try and develop a drama to permanently take that slot.

I can stop you there :)

Winter is currently The Newsroom/Getting On/The Comeback which run through the end of the year.

Also Girls/Looking/Togetherness in January.

In Fall/Winter of 2015 we’ll either get Westworld/True Detective but we’ll also get Scorsese’s new series which has already filmed a pilot. Check out the link in the article :)

So yeah, absolutely no gap plus there are a few other series in the works that could pop up at any moment such as The Bring, The Mighty 8th (though Im guessing that takes a full year to shoot/cut) and a few other smaller comedies (Ballers with The Rock comes to mind)

Honestly, TB, BWE and The Newsroom weren’t bringing in MASSIVE ratings anymore (even though fans loved all three) so if Westworld and Scorsese deliver HBO will be in a better position than they’ve ever been in. True Detective was sort of a bonus last year anyway. No one saw that as a flagship series until episode 6 was rolling and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Now it’s obviously huge for HBO.

Just saying any series at any time could turn into TD or even GoT. And with HBO running things you can’t doubt that one will in 2015. Expect it!

For 2016+ there are even more series rumored starting with Asimov’s FOUNDATION that has me excited plus all those above series getting into their full swing in season 2s.

So to come up with a list of all the programming that will definitely be airing on HBO in 2015:

Girls
Looking
Togetherness
Game of Thrones
Silicon Valley
Veep
Real Time with Bill Maher
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
Vice
True Detective
The Leftovers
Westworld

And the following projects may or may not air in 2015:

Baller’s
The Brink
Utopia
Scorsese’s untitled rock & roll drama
Getting On (if it’s renewed, and I hope it will be)
Codes of Conduct
Vice Principles
Doll & Em (if HBO decides to air the second season)

That’s a lot of programming, and could end up being the best line-up of original programming the network has ever had within a single calender year. There’s also the two miniseries – Crime and Show Me A Hero – that will also likely air in 2015.
