It is not hard to figure out if you followed along. As each week went by a few more NFL teams dropped lower in the ranks that led the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the favored New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. But now the question is which team has the honor of getting scrutinized in the HBO Sports series HARD KNOCKS this coming August?

The field of eligible teams is determined, unless a team off that list volunteers, which never happens. A team is exempt if a team has a first-year head coach in place; if a team has had a playoff spot in the last two seasons and if they have been featured on the show already. Under those criteria that eliminates many. NFL.com breaks it down this way: seeing a new coach are the Giants, Colts, Raiders, Lions, Bears and Cardinals; making in to the playoffs recently are the Patriots, Steelers, Jaguars, Chiefs, Titans, Bills, Eagles, Vikings, Rams, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Raiders, Texans, Lions,  Seahawks, Dolphins, Giants, Packers and Cowboys. Show participants have been the Cowboys (2008), Bengals (2009), Jets (2010), Dolphins (2012), Bengals (2013), Falcons (2014), Texans (2015), Rams (2016) and Buccaneers (2017).

HardKnocks_49erQBThe choices left then are as follows: San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins. We’ll give a quick look at each and let you pick which team you’d like to see up close come training time via HARD KNOCKS 2018.

From the NFC West is the San Francisco 49ers who rallied late in the season going 5-0 with QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Their total season, however, was 6-10.

From the AFC West we look to Mile High City and the Denver Broncos. They finished the season 5-11 with a long streak of 8 losses in a row. Going into the 2018 season is the commit of a starting QB so that’s a good storyline.

Then there is the Cleveland Browns. All you need to state is the 0-16 record this AFC North team holds to know they need a jump start. The question is whether the Browns are an exciting enough of a team to watch in training.

One AFC West team’s biggest news of late was a return to LA. It is the San Diego Chargers and they are eligible with a 9-7 result to their 2017 season. Oh, wait, that is the Los Angeles Chargers, right? Is there identity struggle still part of the story?

The Baltimore Ravens from the AFC North is a surprising team on this list. The club finished the season 9-7 and missed the playoffs for the third year in a row. This team would be truly pissed to be on HARD KNOCKS. Well, they all would but the Ravens would be the maddest about it.

The Washington Redskins ended the 2017 season staying with their name and a 7-9 season. Would QB Colt McCoy and his fellow players make a good team under the scrutiny of the NFL_HardKnockscamera?

That is just a quick list. We aren’t about to break down the logic behind why each team would be good or bad on HARD KNOCKS 2018. That is where you come in. So the Comments are reserved for those sports fanatics (that is meant in the nicest way) you want to over analyze it.

The chosen NFL team will likely be announced sometime this spring and, of course, the show won’t air until late August prefacing 2018’s football season. So, who do you want to be featured on HARD KNOCKS?
