Buckle up, ladies and gents because I have news. The best kind of news because it involves HBOMax and Harry Potter. Yes, that’s right! The Boy Who Lived is back in a big way coming next year! The ones who love us never really leave us and such as been true for our Mr. Potter. This beloved series maintains its fandom all around the world, arguably stronger than ever after 20 years. Some are children just finding the magic, some are adults who grew up with the boy wizard. For me, I started reading the books at 11 after nearly losing my mother in a car accident. Hogwarts and the Boy Who Lived helped this girl survive near tragedy and have held a place in my heart ever since. So what’s next for our favorite boy wizard? A 20th anniversary special of course! Can you believe Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone came out 20 years ago? I feel so old now.

Hitting HBO Max streaming on January 1st, we’ll join the main three Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley) as we take a retrospective look at the Harry Potter series. Other names include Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), and more! There’ll be more Weasleys than you can shake the Whomping Willow at!  Though there are some names we’ve lost, we’ll hold them close to our hearts as we revisit a much beloved film series.

It shall be said that the author who will not be named IS NOT included in the special.  She did not take part and at this time neither her camp nor Warner Bros. have offered comments. Given the author’s personal choices have come out on the opposite of almost all of the cast, it’s not surprising that her presence might be a tad gauche. Everyone wants to keep the good vibes going, especially celebrating 20 years of film with our favorite boy wizard. In the Washington Post, Tom Ascheim, President of Warner Bros., said, “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon.”  So all Potterheads, young or old, gather your wands and prepare to be touched by the magic once more.  As for me, I’ll be in my Hufflepuff pants and Hogwarts scarf on the couch with my wand and Butterbeer bingeing all the films on HBO Max until then.
