People_HenryWinklerNot too long ago we reported that SNL alum Bill Hader was working on a comedy called BARRY for HBO. Well it must be on a fast-track because news of casting the show has popped up rather quickly listing a few recognizable names. Joining Bill Hader will be Henry Winkler (pictured), Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan and Glenn Fleshler.

To make sense of what character each one of them plays we remind you of the premise first. Just who is this Barry? He is an ex-Marine who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene. Hader is expected to play the role himself. Now, as this pilot takes shape we learn of the casting.

The biggest name to note is Henry Winkler, best remembered as Fonzie from Happy Days that aired for eleven seasons from 1974-1984. He, of course as acted since, like in Park and Recreation and has been a producer as well. Winkler will portray Gene Cousineau, an inspiring acting teacher. We are just speculating that perhaps Barry sees Gene as a mentor? Sarah Goldberg will play Sally, an aspiring actress who is Barry’s entree into LA’s theater scene. The actress is known best for her role in VH1’s Hindsight series from last year. Now she just might become Barry’s girlfriend or perhaps she was the hitman’s target? Gotham’s Victor Zsasz, Anthony Carrigan, is listed Noho Hank, a Russian gangster. Once a bad guy always a bad guy I guess, though his name doesn’t sound that Russian to me. Regardless, he sounds like the dangerous element to the show.

Then there is Glenn Fleshler. He is no stranger to HBO as he played Errol Childress, (that’s right, the green-eared spaghetti monster) from TRUE DETECTIVE Season One. In this pilot he plays Goran, a Russian gangster. Hmm, it seems like the Russian Mafia just might stir up trouble for our buddy BARRY. That, of course, depends on HBO. We’ll keep you apprised.
