By now everyone is fully aware of the role sex scenes play in HBO’s Game of Thrones. the show’s sexuality might even be too hot to handle for some of the actors involved! There is great debate as to whether or not the show is helped or hindered by the borderline pornographic scenes that play themselves out on screen. SNL takes a look at how and why those porn scenes are in Game of Thrones by “interviewing” all of your favorite stars from the show. The result is pure hilarity. Take a look and decide for yourself whether or not Game of Thrones is too sexy for TV. Just remember, it’s not TV, it’s HBO.

Pretty funny stuff, SNL! We’re glad you’re watching the show so… closely. What do you think about the gratuitous sex in Game of Thrones? Do they take away from the story or add to it? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts and do mention whether or not you’re familiar with the source material (the novels).

In my opinion these scenes add to the show because they show to what means the characters would go to accomplish their goal, they show the savagery of the Dothraki as khal Drogo constantly forced himself upon Daenerys. If the series stays true to the novels we will see her again in scenes like that with the mercenary captain Daario Naharis in Meereen. Scenes like that show how a character like Dany evolves from a frightened young girl to a woman and a queen. And let’s not forget that there is a war going on in Westeros. Sadly, rape is a common incident in war situations even today, not to mention the medieval times when the soldiers take advantage of every situation because it could be their last. Those scenes help to depict the real situation in Westeros and are giving it an authentic look, setting it off from a plane fairy tale. Hope this helps a little. I’m a big fan of the show and the novels, and I’m just finishing A dance of dragons.

Thanks for commenting, Mladen. I tend to agree. Most of the sex ads to the grittiness and “realness” of the show. Sure, some of it is for fun/shock but that’s just how GRRM’s world of Westeros rolls!

Not saying every brothell scene “adds depth to the story” but what does it take away? Petyr works in a brothel, okay! There are going to be a few sex scenes. They’re obviously gratuitous at times but I think for the most part they’re a captivating and crucial part of Game of Thrones.
