With the new season of Game of Thrones exactly two months away, a constant barrage of news, updates and interviews has become the norm, which is a welcome relief after a long interim of radio-silence following Season Four. This week has been a busy one for fans, as a HBO special on the making of Season Five was released, the Game of Thrones exhibit opened, and we gained new revelations into George R. R. Martin’s original vision for his epic book series. As the week draws to the end, though, still more news has arrived hot off the presses.

  • Seven Books Still the Plan for ASOIAF

If anyone was wondering if George R.R. Martin was changing his plans for his book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, the answer is no. The author, who originally planned for the series to be a trilogy, recently confirmed by way of a comment on his blog that he plans to write two more books, and only two more. “I’m still planning for seven books,” wrote George R. R. Martin. Although by now, long time fans have become accustomed to major changes in plans by Martin, at least for the moment, for now, we can look forward to two more books, which, at the time of this writing, are titled “Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring.”

  • HBO To Release Another “Game of Thrones” Album

After the success of last year’s “Game of Thrones” themed rap mix-tape, Catch the Thronenews sources say that HBO is producing another album which will be available, free to the public in March. The album will be made up of several big-name rap and metal artists, united by the general theme “ice and fire.” Titled, Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 and championed by the famous rapper Snoop Dog, the album looks like it will be a treat for fans of music and Westeros alike. Who doesn’t like free music with a Game of Thrones theme?

  • Sophie Turner Warns of Shocking Scenes in Season 5

Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has been making the rounds in media lately with suggestions that Season Five will exceed previous seasons in it’s shocking content. This is a pretty bold claim, given the reputation Game of Thrones has earned  for it’s startling and often brutal plot turns. We’ll have to see if Sophie’s foreshadowing that “There’s some massive moments, perhaps even more shocking than the Red Wedding…” will come true. Many believe that Sophie’s claims of shocking material may be oriented around her character’s plot-line which fans are beginning to suspect will veer from its plot in the books towards a relationship far more disturbing than anything we have seen with Sansa and Littlefinger. While this is all conjecture at the moment, thanks to some expert detective work matching doors in Game of Thrones sets, many fans are speculating that Sansa will be returning to Winterfell this season under less than perfect circumstances. Whether these rumors are true or not, it will certainly be interesting to see what scenes Sophie is talking about as the season unfolds.

It’s a busy time for fans of Game of Thrones as announcements and news spread like Wildfire. Let’s hope for more new insights into Season Five next week…and if we’re really lucky, another trailer.

I’m still hoping for an early 2016 release for “The Winds of Winter.” I know that GRRM is off doing all sorts of press junkets and that it takes him some time to produce a quality tome, but at this point, so many dedicated fans are waiting patiently for the 6th book. Of course, it goes without saying that the screen adaptations won’t follow the books 100% and we have to remember that it’s tough to do that with any book being translated onto the big screen. I would have loved to see Lady Stoneheart and other subplots, but what can you do? I’m looking forward to seeing if the next Mix tape is just as popular as the first one. April is getting closer and with that, Season V. Winter: bring it!!!
