While audiences will bid adieu to Game of Thrones once and for all next year, those involved with the show behind the scenes have already begun to say their farewells to their characters, cast and crew mates, and Thrones careers, some of which have spanned almost a decade from start to finish. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, a character whom we have followed on her victorious quest for the Iron Throne since Season One, revealed that she has already filmed Daenerys’ final scene in the show. Clarke also hinted that the scene might be controversial: “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is . . .” It’s sobering to remember that in Game of Thrones‘ final season, we will not only be saying goodbye to characters we have loved or loved to hate for years now, but that their final moments will very likely decide what their legacies will be.

Speaking of final moments, the cast of Game of Thrones were determined to end the production of the show’s final season with a bang. In Belfast recently, past and present actors and actresses from the show reunited to have some fun and doubtless indulge in a little sentimentality. The party was not open to the public but several attendees posted pictures on their social media accounts which should clear up any doubt you had in your mind regarding whether or not the cast of Thrones knows how to have a good time. While the get-together was more or less a “wrap party,” Game of Thrones is still filming, although production should officially be over soon, most likely by the end of June.

Good news for the Game of Thrones cast members who want to keep the party going– Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and former Thrones actress Rose Leslie (Ygritte) will be getting married June 23rd– in a castle, no less–and all of their cast-mates are invited. Let us hope there is lots of feasting and merry-making, no one starts serenading them with “The Rains of Castamere,” and the wedding is a very dull affair, at least by Dothraki standards. Harington and Leslie met on the Game of Thrones set playing two unlikely, not to mention unlucky lovers–hopefully their union in real life will be longer, but no less passionate.

a07044a2d8ab576bLast but not least, if you are looking for GOT themed music to jam to at your next party or wedding, HBO has partnered with Columbia Records to put out an album, the content of which we can learn from its straight forward title: Music Inspired by Game of Thrones. A couple of years ago, HBO released some Game of Thrones themed hip-hop albums which were a bit uneven in terms of quality and confusing thematically– I enjoy Game of Thrones and hip-hop as much as anyone, but HBO never provided an explanation for the fusion of these rather discordant thematics and styles. This new album will have a “diverse” offering of genres and artists, and that’s all we know at the moment, but I’m looking forward to listening to it when it comes out. Game of Thrones has a rich history of good music, ranging from its dynamic soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi to its various musician cameos over the years ranging from Of Monsters and Men to Ed Sheeran.
