Drogo-Dangerous-Game-of-Thrones-Season-2As you know, when you play the game of thrones, you either win or you die. And there are a number of treacherous lords and ladies is HBO’s A Game of Thrones who will make sure of that fact. To say that the characters in this show are dangerous is an understatement, but who presents the most danger in the world of Westeros?

The first names to come to the minds of watchers might be the Clegane brothers. Sandor and Gregor are unmatched for the size and ferocity in battle. They both make for imposing figures, but I’d run from Gregor before his younger brother. In the show, Sandor seems to at least exercise some restraint with his power. This is more than can be said for Gregor, who chops the head off his horse after losing in a joust.

Gregor is brutish in the worst way, and he seems to lack that all important virtue in Westeros: honor. His raw power and rage paired with his inability to suppress either make him a seriously dangerous character.

game-of-thrones-gregor-clegane-199x300But it’s not always physical prowess that makes a character truly dangerous. It is the calculating, clever characters in places of power that worry me most.

These characteristics are what make Varys and Littlefinger two of those most dangerous characters in A Game of Thrones. These two men are extremely smart and they both seem to have mysterious motives. Who they truly serve within the realm is brought to question, but never truly answered in season one. It’s these questionable allegiances that make them top my list.

Cersei is another character that portrays this cunning, manipulative nature. With King Robert dead and Joffery, the heir to the Iron Throne, too young to rule the kingdom alone, the lady lion is now top of the food chain. She has all the power necessary to fulfill her purposes, which are generally in her and her family’s best interests, and not necessarily the realm’s.

Even more dangerous, are those characters in places of power that show a complete lack of sense and/or moral compass. At the top of this list would be the demonic spawn of the Lannister twins, none other than Joffery Baratheon. He is in a position that allows him do whatever he’d like to whoever he’d like… or he can make his sworn swords, the Kingsguard, do it for him.

Either way, he is one of the most dangerous characters in the Game of Thrones right now. As we saw in season one and from the new trailer, he runs amuck, threatening (and taking) lives with no one to check him.

Danny-Game-of-thrones-heart-300x239While Daenerys is not particularly strong, at least in the physical sense like the Clegane’s, or manipulative way like Littlefinger, a few Dragons can make you pretty dangerous. Dany was always a strong character, but with only a small army of Dothraki who are terrified of crossing the sea, she posed little threat to Westeros.

Before his death, King Robert ordered Daenerys killed because he saw her claim to the Iron Throne as a danger to his crown. Ned dismissed this ‘risk,’ but it seems that Robert wasn’t wrong after all. Her lineage and her parentage of three dragons make her seriously dangerous.

Danger seems to lurk around every corner in this world George R. R. Martin created. Danger can be seen more subtly in characters like Cersei and Varys, or the crazy can be right out there for everyone to see in Joffery’s case. In any case, the people of Westeros better be prepared.

Who do you think is the most dangerous character in A Game of Thrones?

There are 2 true players in the batter for the 7 kingdoms. Vary’s, who stands for order, caution, and (on some level) justice. Then there is Littlefinger, the consummate adviser to the lords and ladies, yet with no true friends. His power lies in his powers of manipulation and utter lack of remorse. His goals are power and wealth, and he would sit upon the Iron Throne even if he was to rule only ashes. The other character’s are pawns in the long game between these two, making vary’s and littlefinger perhaps the only ones truly playing the game of thrones.

In terms of ruthlessness and stealth, I’d say Tywin. However, Littlefinger appears to be the most dangerous person in Westeros. He lacks remorse and never does anything unless he can profit from it, whether big or small. He calculates the risk in all that he does. He does not draw attention to himself by being flashy or pretentious. He’s extremely astute in that regard. He is icy cool and never loses his temper, meaning he is in control of his emotions. He is a patient man. And that should un-nerve many people in Westeros. They say ‘patience is a virtue’ – we’re all wondering exactly what Petyr Baelish is waiting for and what will happen, once he gets all that he desires. The Iron Throne….and perhaps a consort to help him rule? And who would he want to trust and mold into a desirable Queen consort…?

Definitely Littlefinger. He has been part of almost all of the power plays in the court and outside (during Wotfks) to his own advantage, and no one even knows what his true intentions are…including Varys (who knows almost everything and said himself that LF is one of the most dangerous men in the whole realm). That’s one really dangerous guy.

General intelligence, cunning, ruthlessness, and especially foresight make a person more dangerous than brute force. Therefore Twin, LF, and Varys are the most dangerous over the long term. LF has certain physical advantages and a lack of attachments that enable him to be the most dangerous of these 3.

After finishing the fourth book, I would have to say Littlefinger. he is cunning, treacherous, intelligent, manipulative and has evil ambitions. All of those characters are dangerous, but he is always a few steps ahead of them. Dany has great potential, but she is good hearted and has too much honor to be considered dangerous. Cersei is a royal bitch ( a little pun intended ) but she isn’t as cunning as she thinks she is.

Joffrey…I forgot which character said it, I think ser Barristan—- he would be crazier than The Mad King as time went on. Why? he was young, and already was.

I agree with you! He does seem to just get more and more out of control, as evidenced in his beheading of Ned. But mainly, I just think he is just a terrbily spoiled little kid who is in need of a serious ass kicking. If he had been brought up with some discipline or guidance I think there is a possibility he could have been at least a little bit better.

Tywin Lannister is the most dangerous player in GoT. He’s very cunning, experienced and knows when to act and when to wait(!). He’s rich and, as head of the Lannister family, he more or less controls all the other Lannisters and the Clegane brothers, who are all for themselves very dangerous.
His only fault is underestimating Tyrion…

Tywin Lannister is dead because he underestimated Tyrion. Almost every plot-driving element after Robert’s Rebellion goes back to either LF or Varys, including the death of Jon Arryn.

Tyrion Lannister is the most dangerous IMO. He truthfully believes that he can change the world and he killed his on kin. That makes him fearless and therefore very very dangerous!

Hm. Interesting perspective. While I agree with you in that he is smart and could be dangerous if he wanted, I don’t feel like he is that dangerous because his intellect (usually) makes him rational. And this is more than can be said for Cersei or Joffrey!
