We knew it would happen this season but we thought we’d have to wait until the finale to make it official: Oathkeeper, Game of Thrones Season 4, Episode 4 was the most watched episode of Game of Throne in history bringing in 6.9 Million viewers and climbing to 8.4 Million with the encore plays that night. Break out the Dornish wine because Game of Thrones is unstoppable this year.  HBO Go seems to be handling the new traffic better than on the premiere night, at least in this author’s experience.

In other ratings news the series premiere of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver brought in 1.4 million viewers. Compared to Jon Stewart’s Daily show (1.5M) and Colbert’s Report (1.2M) we’d call that a solid showing.  Oh, and Bill Maher brings in around 1.2 Million folks per episode on Friday nights, for the record.  LWT is still new though, so give it some time to settle in and perhaps we’ll see those numbers go up or down.  Coming behind the most watched episode of Game of Thrones ever can’t hurt, though.  Be sure to thank Peter Dinkalge next time you see him, Mr. Oliver.

Were you part of the 8.4 Million last Sunday night?  Will you be part of the new record attempt this weekend?
