Okay, we admit that the title above is a bit misleading. No the characters of EUPHORIA are not all getting high on their latest buzz and no, the power ring from The Green Lantern Corps is not all aglow, but these shows are indeed lit. The lights have been turned on in their respective soundstages as production of each show gets before the cameras for HBO!
We all know that EUPHORIA took a bit of a hiatus so that its creator, Sam Levinson, could sidestep away to churn out THE IDOL. Then the Actors Strike of 2023 and the deaths of key participants in the show, actor Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turin, delayed it even more. Finally, after much speculation of whether the show was ending with Season 2’s final episode in February of 2022, we get the indication that the third, but final season, of EUPHORIA will happen.
Emmy winner Zendaya stars, along with Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid and Austin Abrams. Barbie Ferreira and Storm Reid have since bowed out of the series.
Exactly what happens in Season Three is anyone’s guess. There are loose plotlines from Season Two, but the cast has all matured since then and some are not present going forward. It has been indicated as a result a time jump had to be employed. Fans have all of 2025 to catch up with the proceedings because EUPHORIA won’t continue until 2026, a whole four years since its last airing. It might not have happened if Levison wasn’t dedicated to getting it done, or the acclaim the show received wasn’t so huge, and harcore fans and actors didn’t want to see it through.’
The new DC LANTERNS show also powered up recently. Actor Garret Dillahunt (DEADWOOD) has dropped word that the cast is on the soundstage for preliminary work as illustrated in the posting below.
Since we’ve reported on this show last, a number of talents have joined the cast. Dillahunt is onboard as a cowboy named William Macon, described as self-righteous and conspiracy-minded. His charming facade hides a man of ruthless ambition, who will, no doubt get in the way of the GL. Kelly Macdonald (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) will play Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman devoted to her family and her close-knit town. Shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, she tries to stay grounded as her community’s secrets begin to surface and calls the attention of the GL. Poorna Jagannathan (THE NIGHT OF) has scored the recurring role of Zoe. She is described as “effortlessly confident and poised in any setting, even those where she stands out. She is every bit as composed and cunning of the influential men around her.” Actually what that means for the GL we have no clue yet. And lastly, if we are talking Green Lanterns we have to mentioned a key villain of the Corps, Sinestro. That character is a former Green Lantern turned rogue, both ruthless yet undeniably charming. His manipulative nature drives his enduring obsession with his former protege Hal Jordan, which is Kyle Chandler role). Jordan and his protege John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) will no doubt clash with this foe who is personified by BANSHEE’s Ulrich Thomsen.
We will keep you posted on both HBO productions, EUPHORIA and LANTERNS, as they move forward.
