Doc-logo2The first of six HBO documentaries to air in the latter half of 2013 get there premiere dates in the month of September. To find out what other films are in the lineup view this HBOWatch link.-  HBO Documentary Schedule – 2nd Half of 2012

1 )   DON’T DIVORCE ME! KIDS’ RULES FOR PARENTS ON DIVORCE premieres on Sept. 20th

Dont_Divorce_poster This documentary is executive produced by Rosie O’Donnell and directed by Amy Schatz who both oversaw other projects for HBO. O’Donnell was behind A FAMILY IS A FAMILY IS A FAMILY while Schatz has directed many a piece for HBO FAMILY including the award winning CLASSICAL BABY. This time they broach the subject of divorce and how it is viewed in the minds of children.

It is cited in the press release as a “moving, insightful and often funny” work which addresses the topic by “allowing kids to offer dos and don’ts parents should follow” and provide a “valuable tool for families struggling to find their way” with one parent often absent or distant. Children in the film, ranging from the ages of five to ten, via interviews, drawings, songs, photos and actual handwritten rules for parents stress the importance of trying to make divorce a little easier on kids.

If divorce is an issue for you maybe the family should sit down and watch it together. Again it premieres of HBO on September 20th at 6:30pm ET/PT and premieres on HBO FAMILY on September 23rd at 6:30pm ET/PT.

2 )   THE LATINO LIST: VOLUME TWO premieres on Sept. 24th

It is directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and it is part two of a look of what it means to be a part of Hispanic America. This piece spotlights people from a variety of backgrounds and professions. The personal one-on-one with the camera vignettes are with a different set of people with Latino blood than the original THE LATINO LIST. Some are more recognizable than others including George Lopez, Soledad O’Brien and Victor Cruz.Latino_poster

Starting in 2008, Greenfield-Sanders directed and produced THE BLACK LIST: VOLUMES 1, 2, and 3. The first one premiered at The Sundance Film Festival. These documentary films later aired on HBO in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Upon a good reception for the look at the Black American perspective the same format was used to start a look at the Hispanic American community with THE LATINO LIST: VOLUME 1 airing in 2010. He has his background in photography and it shows in the documentary as he frames them now with the motion camera and has them tell the story of what it means to be Latino.

THE LATINO LIST: VOLUME 2 premieres Monday, September 24th at 9:00pm ET/PT. It is sure to be a successful addition to the video chronicles of the melting pot that is America. I’m also sure you don’t have to be Latino to relate to the feelings and stories expressed within the film.
