She is Susan Lacy. She is credited as the creator and executive producer of PBS’ American Masters program. It is a mainstay of public broadcasting showcasing the movers & shakers of our culture. PBS states that the show was created and launched in 1986 by Executive Producer Susan Lacy. The series set the standard for documentary film profiles, accruing widespread critical acclaim – 64 Emmy nominations and 24 awards. American Masters has produced an exceptional library of 180 titles, bringing unique originality and perspective to exploring the lives and illuminating the creative journeys of our most enduring writers, musicians, visual and performing artists, dramatists and filmmakers – those who have “left an indelible impression on our cultural landscape.”
Now that creative force has a new position and it is with HBO. Now that creative force has a new position and it is with HBO. She seems to have moved on mainly because of money. It is not what you think. She came on board with HBO not because of salary but because HBO has the financing that is hard to come by in public broadcasting She will have little problem getting the funds to make and obtain documentaries for the pay cable giant. In a telephone interview with the New York Times she expressed her feelings.
She has been asked to create a biographical series for HBO Documentary Films which is helmed by Sheila Nevins. So, hopefully we can look for something in 2014 from Susan Lacy a great addition to the HBO stable.

I’m glad. HBO is the place for the Documentry Movies these days. In 2012 and 2013, PBS’s budgets have fallen and have resulted in less substance documentaries, including American Masters.
Welcome to HBO Susan.
