Truth be told we were just going to update this post to tell you that DIVORCE, the show being nurtured at HBO by Sarah Jessica Parker, had announced that SJP decided to not only produce the show, but star in it as well. But, shortly after that information news about a number of supporting players also came to light and the fact that it is before the caPeople_ThomasHadenChurch-300x225meras already. First, joining Sarah Jessica Parker in the comedy are Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon and Jemaine Clement.

Sarah Jessica Parker plays Frances, a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that makinga clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought but, nevertheless, it seems divorce must be the answer. Thomas Haden Church (pictured) is Robert, Frances’ husband who is surprised to learn that his wife’s perspective on their marriage is different from his. Molly Shannon plays Diane, Frances’ high-strung friend who has a successful husband, a beautiful house, and no children. Talia Balsam shows the other side of the coin in the character of Dallas, Frances’ close friend, who has been both widowed and divorced.

Also cast in the series is Jemaine Clement. You should recognize him as half of the duo of HBO’s FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS. This New Zealander makes a rare U. S. acting appearance in a role listed as recurring. He plays Julian, Frances’ close friend, a literature professor who lives in Manhattan. Does Julian prove to be the ear that hears all of Frances’ whispered frustrations? Just how close are they? Of course, there is the construct that is the marriage of Robert and Frances – how and why does it crumble?

As mentioned, the pilot is already shooting in NYC. We have confirmation of that with a photo and information from the UK Daily Mail.

Anyway, there is no point in seriously pondering all this at this time as only a pilot has been ordered. There has been no commitment of a series from HBO as of yet. If and when the series is a go then we will have the time to wonder about DIVORCE.
