The announcement that Bill Maher was going to have an anniversary special on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19 came after the month had already started or believe me we would have mentioned it in our What’s On” post. It took the place of a regular installment of his show at 10:00pm ET. You can now catch it across HBO’s platforms.
Via a press release we get the following details:
REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER: ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL looks back at highlights of Maher’s irreverent run on TV, featuring archival footage from both REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER and Politically Incorrect, as well as appearances by such notables as Salman Rushdie, Maureen Dowd, Billy Crystal, Larry David, Martin Short, Woody Harrelson and Barbra Streisand, among others, who offer observations on what has contributed to his success over the years and what continues to set him apart. His HBO show allows Maher to offer his unique perspective on contemporary issues, and features an opening monologue, roundtable discussions with panelists and interviews with guests, capped off by his iconic “New Rules.” Maher headlined his first special on the network in 1989 and has starred in 11 HBO solo specials to date, including the recent “Bill Maher Live from Oklahoma.”
REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER: ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL is executive produced by Bill Maher, Scott Carter, Sheila Griffiths, Marc Gurvitz, Dean E. Johnsen, Billy Martin, Mark Herzog and Christopher G. Cowen.
If you watch Bill Maher on a regular basis then you tuned in already as he continues on his sixteenth season with REAL TIME. The special, however, is quite a different format from the series. The hour is a retrospective clip-fest highlighting many an insightful & argumentative guest, hot topics and controversies. It also singles out moments when Maher made the news for his rants and moments when things didn’t quite go as planned. Plenty of admiration for what he can get away with or what he dares to say he also expressed.
In fact, if you never saw an installment of REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER this special is a great opportunity to get caught up in what Maher is all about. By show’s end you will at least have a strong understanding of his stance on politics, social & cultural issues, religion and the stupidities of humanity like only he can dish out. Check it out.
