We drop some news here about J. J Abrams’ sci-fi drama DEMIMONDE only because it has been in development for such a long time and we’ve hardly heard anything about it. Well, now we know that actress Danielle Deadwyler is set to star in the work.
As of last we reported DEMIMONDE is set to be an epic series though, as was everything else, the pandemic set it back. We should see more news coming forth now as production staff is set and its lead procured. Deadwyler, last seen by us in HBO Max’ STATION ELEVEN, is set as Olive Reed. The character is torn away from her husband and daughter in a brutal scientific accident, she is forced to unravel a conspiracy to reunite with her family, now lost to a dark, distant other world.
Rather a vague premise; but it has the potential to set this story off a thousand different ways. Is the family hurled through space or through time? Truly an accident or intentional? Why is there not a concerted intent to rescue the family? Just what is the conspiracy? What fantastical world is Abrams building? Are you intrigued to see where this goes?
I don’t think there is any argument that Danielle Deadwyler is a strong choice to lead the story. We will keep you posted as DEMIMONDE moves forward. We should at least hear of additional casting in the weeks ahead. Maybe we can see this on the slate by Fall of 2023? It is produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and HBO and is written, executive produced and to be directed by Abrams. J. J. Abrams has been polarizing as of late, some despise what he has done for famed franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, but has proven well at his on concepts. DEMIMONDE is largely a creation of his so we will see how it fares for him and HBO.
