HBO seems to be hungry for real life drama films this year! With Game Change, Too Big to Fail, and a new Dick Cheney miniseries in the works, HBO has been hard at work collecting personal, true-life dramas. So why wouldn’t they attempt to tackle the largest pyramid schemer of the century?
The project is green-lit, that much is known. HBO has purchased the filming rights the the book: The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust. Deadline and THR have both reported having insider access to the project but little is known concretely other than De Niro’s general involvement as a producer. Though, given the two’s passing resemblance it would be hard to see HBO not utilizing the actor’s skills for such a role.
Given the amount of circumstantial evidence and our general sense of the situation, HBOWatch believes that De Niro will almost certainly be starring as the infamous Bernie Madoff in HBO’s new biopic. We’ll have more to report as we get it! What do you think? Leave your comments below.
