As of this writing, we still have the Season Three finale to air of Pete Holmes in CRASHING. However, to our surprise that episode, the series 24th installment will be the show’s last. The episode is the 8th of the current season and is called “Mulaney” In it, Pete (Pete Holmes) jumps at the opportunity of a lifetime to open for John Mulaney at New York’s Town Hall, but the gig leaves him in an awkward situation. It is written by Judd Apatow & Judah Miller & directed by Gillian Robespierre. Here is the preview:

The question here is whether this episode is going to be a solid ending for the series or is it going to leave viewers hanging? Just what is that ‘awkward situation’ referred to? It may be deemed awkward but is it a good or bad moment? I guess we will soon find out as HBOWatch will review the back four episodes and see how it all ends for Pete.

The news originally dropped in an unexpected place. It happened during a Judd Apatow visit to CONAN on TBS. Apatow, an executive producer & writer for the series, doesn’t really say the words “CRASHING is canceled” as he plays around the thought. Here is that clip:

And finally, over at CBS This Morning both Apatow & Holmes were able to sit down and talk at more length about the show and Holmes’ career. Though it doesn’t really address the cancelation and HBO reasons behind it is a nice way to showcase Holmes & CRASHING.

Again, check back for our review as the show wraps up and CRASHING fans, best pay attention for a while because there is already rumor that the show may look elsewhere or head to the big screen. Or could there be there an HBO Films: CRASHING in the works? Whatever happens, we can be sure Pete Holmes will be alright. But what about poor Artie Lange?

Breaks my heart! Crashing has easily been one of my favorite shows to keep up with.

I guess HBO has canceled great shows too early in the past but I hope this isn’t a symptom of the ATT takeover. If it is, I’m not going to like this.

First show cut under the new management. I cannot really cite a reason for the cancelation anywhere. It must just be that the numbers were not where AT&T expects a show to hit to be considered an “HBO quality show.” They are setting their parameters for what they expect I guess.
