In a brief exchange with ET at a THE WHITE LOTUS event, Carrie Coon gave a shout-out to the gay community, for enabling a third season of THE GILDED AGE to even happen. I don’t know what intel she knows, but there have been no statistics that support that claim. The show is enjoyed by quite a demographic of people, we’re sure. Perhaps she knows that they enjoy the catfighting & high fashion, we don’t know. But she jokingly declared it, then took the laugh out of her voice and said “No, seriously.”
Regardless, it gives us an in into talking about Season Three of the Julian Fellowes series. Exterior filming took place last summer & fall, then they moved into interior filming. Production wrapped up in January of this year. All that awaits is post-production marketing & scheduling. We should see THE GILDED AGE late this year.
Though we don’t know anything about the plotline, we do know that a number of new faces have joined the cast for the third season. The additions include Phylicia Rashad who plays Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland, a woman from a Newport family; Brian Stokes Mitchell as Black pastor Frederick Kirkland; Jordan Donica as Dr. William Kirkland and Victoria Clark as Joan Carlton. There is also Merritt Wever as Monica O’Brien, the estranged sister of Carrie Coon’s Bertha Russell, and Bill Camp as JP Morgan, a formidable foe to Morgan Spector’s railroad tycoon George Russell. Leslie Uggams plays Mrs. Ernestine Brown, a friend of Rashad’s character and Lisagay Hamilton personifies Black suffragist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper who takes Denée Benton’s Peggy under her wing. Also to be seen are Jessica Frances Dukes, Paul Alexander Nolan, Hatti Morahan, and Andrea Martin.
Together they will all be in their finery when fans, including a strong gay contingency apparently, see them next when THE GILDED AGE returns in the latter months of 2025. Stay tuned. In the meantime, don’t forget to catch Carrie Coon in Season 3 of THE WHITE LOTUS, debuting Sunday, February 17 on HBO.
