The world of Westeros has many characters. So many characters, in fact that HBO can’t fit them all into every season. Who’s sitting on the sidelines this year? It would appear to be Bran and his lovable ride Hodor. Speaking with Yahoo News actor Kristian Nairn (Hodor) said this:
“We have a season off and we have a year’s hiatus, solely because I imagine our storyline is up to the end of the books.”
Oh, really? He says it like we all knew as much but this reader/writer/fan most certainly did not!
But for book readers, this almost makes sense. Bran’s story line (and thus Hodor’s) has almost reached the same point as in the books. With The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the series, not even on the release calendar yet Game of Thrones season 5 might just be a good place for Team Bran to take a little break. There’s been speculation about the show catching up to the books so maybe HBO is trying to give George some time.
Each new set and location adds to the complexity of the seasonal shoot. Removing Bran and Hodor’s “Beyond the Wall” storyline may give us more time with Tyrion, Jon and The Mother of Dragons this year.
Are you happy with the omission? Can you wait an extra year to find out what Bran is up to with that half-tree-half-man looking dude?
Game of Thrones season 5 premieres in spring of 2015.
