They’ll be back! Two satisfying and successful shows will return for new seasons in 2023 and we’re happy about that. You can count on more BARRY and A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW next year. The announcements come from HBO PR.
The critically acclaimed dark comedy series BARRY has been renewed for a fourth season. Season four will begin production in Los Angeles in June, with Bill Hader directing all eight episodes. Hader and Alec Berg are the series co-creators and executive producers.
With that renewal, the big note for me was that Bill Hader was going to direct the entire season! Yeah, because if you have been following Season Three of this intense half-hour show, Hader has helmed 5 of the 8 episodes (Berg directed the other 3) and they are solid works from opening shot through to the abrupt cut-to-black at each episode’s end. As of this writing, there is only one episode left to air, and Barry Beckman has barely made it out of the season alive. It is going to be a thrilling wait for what comes next.
Amy Gravitt, executive vice president, HBO Programming states: “Bill, Alec and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of BARRY, it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense. I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.”
Also promised another visit back to HBO in 2023 will be Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black, Skye Townsend, and no doubt another bus load of celebrity guests, for Season Four of A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW.
Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming said, “Robin, Gabrielle, Ashley, and Skye brought so much life to each character they portrayed in every sketch. We’re beyond excited to explore even more comedic worlds with a fourth season of A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW.” Also, Creator/Writer/Executive Producer/Star Robin Thede stated, “A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW has created an indelible mark thanks to the trust and support of the incredible team at HBO. We are ecstatic to be heading into a fourth season that means so much to our cast, crew, and the dedicated audience who so passionately loves our show.”
It is witty, sharp and well thought out. By now it also comes complete with recurring characters you can’t wait to see. It speaks to not just its people, but to anyone with a sense of humor, though not everybody will get all the cultural in-jokes.
So, there you go with more BARRY and A BLACK LADY SKETCH SHOW in our future.
