Junior-Sopranos-Prequel

You may be having a sense of deja vu because we’ve reported on similar statements by Sopranos creator David Chase in the past. But the ramifications of a prequel to one of the most successful HBO series’ of all time are too great to ignore.  In a recent interview with the AP Chase said this when asked about another series with the word “Soprano” in the title:

“Even if I did it, it wouldn’t be ‘The Sopranos’ that was on the air — obviously at least one person is gone that we would need,” he says. “There are a couple of eras that would be interesting for me to talk about, about Newark, New Jersey. One would be (the) late ’60s, early ’70s, about all the racial animosity, or the beginning, the really true beginning of the flood of drugs.”

He told another publication in 2012 who the main characters would be:

“It would be with Tony’s father, and Uncle Junior, and Livia–Tony’s mother–long before any of the other characters we know now.”

On a scale from one to bada-bing! how excited are you at the prospect of exploring the gangster-filled world of The Sopranos in the 1960s?  The sad truth is: Game of Thrones will end someday and HBO will need another smash hit to keep it on top as the best television show producer in the game. The Sopranos prequel written by David Chase would no doubt be tempting for all those involved in its possible production.

While you mull that over you should know that The Sopranos, The Complete Series is out on Blu-Ray this week. If you want to hear more from Mr. Chase, as well as the actors and actresses from the series give that a look as the special features are long and of the highest quality.

We’ll bring you any rumblings we get on a possible Sopranos prequel as we feel them so sleep tight.

You know what would be great? A movie with Silvo coming out of his coma a few years later. A catch up to where the people are, etc.

An early-70s-based “Sopranos” would be unspeakably wonderful …
You saw how great it was with NY/”Goodfellas”, right?
Well, just imagine it being NJ/”Sopranos”, instead ….
‘eyyyyyy, ‘uh?

Just got to say it… AJ wanted to join the army…Right! Let him return from his tour of duty as a military man trained in combat now willing to turn mobster in order to avenge his fathers killers. Just a thought.

I just finished watching the final episode of the Soprano’s. What a shock ending! Absolutely Brilliant. I reckon they need to bring back the cast that was left in tact, and continue on as life itself does. Being a script writer, I have penned out a plot in how the story line could be resurrected from where it left off. Like father like son, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Please Mr Chase, bring back the Sopranos. From what I am reading…Even the cast themselves want the show back. looking forward to seeing what you do with the flash back idea.

The idea could definitely work, but is it fair to the shows own legacy, will it make a difference in wanting to watch the sopranos, I felt Chase should have put out the movie a real hard look like Good Fellas or Casino especially since the show often went certain directions that weren’t shown or mentioned in the show, For instance the death of Hesh’s love interest the black woman that he thought Tony didn’t know about, and was it over money, or was it over the fact that Hesh was trying to make moves on the street, and was pushing for a return of the old school tough guy Jew that cut his own path, the fact that Hesh and his own were walking towards the car that night and was if remembered correctly approached on some serious shit! that was mentioned passingly. Also what about the royalties of the black singers and song writers that Hesh cut out and never came open on how much, and so the Rapper played by Bokeem woodbind was touching upon something that Tony new something about but wasn’t to keen to catch Hesh on at that time place, in the story…I can see why people would want to see the sopranos, prequel, but ta the same time its like too “GodFatherish” for me.

What black woman that “he thought tony didn’t know about”? I know the show back to front and inside out but have no idea what you’re on about!

As a big Sopranos fan (seen it all five times), I used to love watching Tony’s flashbacks from when he was a kid. This idea can definitely work!

This is something I would be very interested in watching. Always fascinating to see the rise of a Mob family and where they started from, humble roots and all.
