Praise be, the Gemstone family are returning to our screens on June 18th! Danny McBride is back in the writing saddle once more as a new season of utter calamity and debauchery shrouded in evangelical good intentions graces our screens once more and by the looks of the teaser the Gemstone family are just as fucked up as ever. Thank the Lord.
At the end of season 2, we saw the Gemstones breaking ground at Zions Landing, their new resort. We also learned during the second season that Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) had previously lived a life of crime which eventually caught up on him and threatened his future as the celebrity patriarch of the famous family. Now season three begins with the Gemstone children taking control of the Gemstone empire. Jesse (McBride) as the eldest son, appears to be the one who is largely calling the shots but not without petulance from his sister Judy (Edi Patterson) and little brother Kelvin (Adam Devine) likely influence his decisions. The children seem to be as childish as ever, which is only going to spell disaster in the long run.
The trailer also shows us the newly reconciled Baby Billy and his wife Tiffany who, for the first time in a long time, is no longer pregnant and in fact a new mother! Seeing Baby Billy navigate life with a newborn is likely to provide some fun dynamics in their relationship, but in the trailer we see him all seeing all dancing in a glamorous new setting, with Tiffany by his side. Maybe things for Billy are finally good? Probably not for long though.
The teaser gives very little away in terms of storyline or plot for the third season but whets the appetite by showing us that the Gemstone children have not changed and instead face a new set of challenges where they may not have Daddy to run to anymore.
