Originals don’t end with fictional series. There are also our commentary/news series as well and HBO offers three good ones. Friday nights has Bill Maher and Shane Smith doing what they do best. REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER continues its 13th season with a new edition debuting FRIDAY, MAY 1 at 10:00pm followed by other new editions subsequent Fridays at the same time. If you have missed what is coming out of Maher’s mouth then you missed him sparring with Robert Kennedy Jr., Clay Aiken, Mike Huckabee, an especially hot round with Fareed Zakaria and grumblings over a singer in a boy’s band.

VICE continues its third-season run with a new episode debuting FRIDAY, MAY 1 at 11:00pm. The new season features an expanded slate of 14 all-new editions, so we are only halfway through it. The one episode we have confirmed for May is the first one. It is about tomb raiders with correspondent Gianna Toboni and a look at the status of the Western White Male in China with Thomas Morton. And series just are not enough in May. Two HBO Films presentations are also on the schedule. One features a legendary Blues songstress and the other an examination of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Starring Oscar nominee Queen Latifah (Chicago) in the title role, HBO Films’ BESSIE debuts SATURDAY, MAY 16 (8:00-10:00 p.m.), exclusively on HBO. Directed by Elliott Lester from a screenplay by Frederick Mensch, the single-character drama is a provocative film that probes the darkest corners of a disturbed mind, as a war veteran begins to unravel thread by thread. This searing story of solitude and isolation offers a poignant look at how life has failed one man.

The general manager (Kevin Costner) of an NFL team trades up for the first-round pick, but may lose his girlfriend and his team as a result when DRAFT DAY debuts SATURDAY, MAY 2 at 9:00 p.m. Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Frank Langella and Sam Elliott also star in the drama, with Ellen Burstyn and Chadwick Boseman. Will you rally to this sports drama with a touch Costner charm? Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Movies_TIWILY-300x225Kathyrn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda star in this touching comedic drama. HBO air dates: 05.10 at 1:10am & 7:10pm; 05.13 at 8:00pm; 05.14 at 4:10am; 05.20 at 12:30am; 05.23 at 2:00am; 05.26 at 4:05am and 05.29 at 1:05am. Then there is the month’s blockbuster…Ten years after a pandemic sweeps the planet, apes and humans battle for control when DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES debuts SATURDAY, MAY 23 (8:00 p.m.). Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell and Kodi Smit-McPhee are in this hit reboot of the sci-fi series, directed by Matt Reeves and written by Mark Bomback and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. Find it on 05.24 at 1:15am & 6:45pm; 05.27 at 11:45am & 9:00pm; 05.31 at 10:45am and into June.

HBO Specials: Taped live April 18 at Cleveland’s Public Hall, the exclusive HBO special 2015 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY debuts SATURDAY, MAY 30 (8:00-11:00 p.m.) and marks the 30th anniversary of the event. This year’s inductees are Ringo Starr, The “5” Royales, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Green Day, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and Bill Withers. We will have an upcoming post detailing more about the event, but for now, here is a Tease.

HBO Documentary: And speaking about rocking how about all the buzz over the Kurt Cobain documentary that has even had a Docs_Montage-Of-Heck-203x300limited theatrical release? The first fully authorized documentary about the iconic leader of Nirvana, KURT COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK debuts MONDAY, MAY 4 (9:00-11:15 p.m.). This raw and visceral journey through his life provides no-holds-barred access to Cobain’s archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives and songbooks. Directed by Oscar nominee Brett Morgen and executive produced by Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, it features dozens of Nirvana songs and performances, as well as previously unheard Cobain originals. It is going to be AWESOME!

Two other gritty documentaries wait as well. Dubbed “The Cannibal Cop,” NYPD officer Gilberto Valle was convicted in March 2013 of conspiring to kidnap and eat young women. Valle argued it was all a fantasy; the prosecution’s narrative convinced jurors otherwise. Valle was facing a possible life sentence when filmmaker Erin Lee Carr began visiting him in prison. After 22 months behind bars, his conviction was overturned in a stunning reversal. Debuting MONDAY, MAY 11 (9:00-10:30 p.m.), THOUGHT CRIMES unravels the conflicting stories of a potentially dangerous young man and the unexpected consequences of online activity. Debuting MONDAY, MAY 18 (9:00-10:30 p.m.), SOUTHERN RITES visits Montgomery County, Ga., one year after the town merged its racially segregated proms, and during a historic election campaign that may lead to its first African-American sheriff. Acclaimed photographer Gillian Laub, whose photos first brought the area unwanted notoriety, documents the repercussions when a white town resident is charged with the murder of a young black man. The case divides locals along well-worn racial lines, and the ensuing plea bargain and sentencing uncover complex truths and produce emotional revelations.HBO is just not relenting on the powerful documentary front. HBOWatch will review them.

Movie_-MariaFullOfGrace-300x225Other Movies and Shows: Though there is plenty of premiere content for you to find on HBO in May you still might have extra time to watch something else. So here are some other titles to add to the list. How about THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, MARIA FULL OF GRACE  which is about a drug mule or CLEAR HISTORY? Those last two titles were HBO Films presentations. Heck, those are just some titles in the first week. So trust me, you’ll find something.

HBO’s Other Platforms: I dug around the schedule and found these entertainments that might pique someone’s interest. HBO Latino: DIAS DE GRACIA (Days of Grace) A breathlessly paced adrenaline rush” (Hollywood Reporter), this high-octane crime thriller uses the backdrop of the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cup games to interweave various characters and stories together. Tenoch Huerta stars as a ruthless young cop who resorts to any means necessary to deal with out-of-control crime and violence inMovie_GreencardWarriors-233x300 the streets of Mexico City at that time. GREENCARD WARRIORS, (I love that title) tells of an undocumented Latino teen struggling to find his identity but gets mixed up with a street gang after his older brother is lured into the U.S. Army with the promise of naturalization papers. Manny Perez, Angel Amaral, Paige Hurd and Vivica A. Fox star in this award-winning drama. Directed and written by Miriam Kruishoop. HBO Family: The young ladies of the household might like UPTOWN GIRLS with Brittany Murphy If she prefers something a bit classier than how about A GOOD WOMAN which is an Oscar Wilde adaptation or a bit trashier with THE SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS. HBO Signature: There is PICTURE THIS with “High School Musical “star Ashley Tisdale who headlines this coming of age comedy about an unpopular high school senior who lands a date with the most popular boy in school, only to find herself grounded on day of the big event. Oh, come on, your daughter might like it or maybe LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. It is a coming of age story of six youngsters, set in the beautiful nostalgic world of a working-middle class neighborhood. Personally, I’d prefer FFOLKES with Rodger Moore (pictured). HBO Comedy: The focus is on Movies_Ffolkes-300x169the laughs, but is that the case with WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM? with Garry Shandling making his big-screen debut as a leading man in this sci-fi romantic comedy. The dames Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton give comedy a go in FIRST WIVES CLUB. I know that these titles are stretching the choices so I’ll quit while I’m ahead. HBOGo/HBONow: Cataloged on the sites you will find the complete series run of LOOKING, which will not be returning for a Season Three. Some movies coming soon include THE RETURN OF THE MUSKETEERS, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, TAI-PAN and LOVE AND A .45. Plus the comedy of Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia and Kathy Griffin are added. Cinemax: The Guide isn’t available as of this writing, so I’ll just offer a few movies. There are no episodes in the Cinemax series right now. AS ABOVE/SO BELOW, ANNABELLE, SHALLOW HAL and THE MARINE come to mind. Viewers of the channel know where to go to get more details.

Next Month’s Tease:  For June – to draw off (liquid) by capillary action is to____.

Some figured out that Pierre Boulle wrote the Planet of the Apes novel and that “Polly” is a Nirvana song leading us to the blockbuster movie and the “Montage of Heck” for May.

Final Clip: though there is a lot of interesting content in May I couldn’t deny you the blockbuster two months in a row so here is a tease for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Enjoy. Oh, and feel free to let us know what you’ll be watching in May.

I think its my duty to warn all of you that pirating/torrenting GoT S5 is illegal and unethical. Governments are strictly tracking torrenters and you can face serious jail time for torrenting GoT S5 episodes. The best way to watch Game of Thrones Season 5 is by using a VPN/DNS service to access HBO Now and purchasing an account. Personally, I’ve been using PureVPN to access HBO Now. It gives me very good streaming speed and gives me peace of mind because I’m watching it legally.

May is packed with the lack of films cause we got the RnR HoF and a couple HBO films. So far we got a big one and some bo bombs. Anyway, next month should be an interesting month. Suprised they didn’t do a 24/7 on Pacquiao/Mayweather.

Jef Dinsmore April 29, 2015 - 9:33 am

Most Hollywood movies are overrated in my opinion. The two HBO Films are more of an interest to me.

As for the whole Pacquiao/Mayweather event, it is in partnership with Showtime so it is an unique venture that might not allow HBO to have a free reign to cover the event like they would normally.

John Wick next month cause wick means draw off (liquid) by capillary action

You enjoy this don’t you? You are correct with JOHN WICK with Keanu Reeves, but first we have a lot to watch with talents like Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Kevin Costner, Queen Latifah and David Oyelowo in May.

Well several teases were easy cause I’ve heard of the movie or song. But for some, I just highlight the tease and look it up.
