images2Whenever you are ready to come inside and settle in front of the TV or computer make sure you check out our favorite programming on HBO and/or HBOGO. Looking at May’s schedule I think you will find something to watch.

Theatrical Movies: I didn’t catch it yet but from April’s premieres my spouse and I will catch WATER FOR ELEPHANTS. I think she’d like it. I mean, don’t you often sit through a show or movie you’re not interested in because the other person in the room wants to see it? Well, I do from time to time. Traditionally, Saturday night is new movie night and in May there are choices for the family to enjoy. The movies offered are HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2, XMEN: FIRST CLASS and KUNG FU PANDA 2. In an odd bit of scheduling a movie titled ONE DAY is also listed on the online guide as a Saturday premiere. It is slated to premiere on 05.05.12 but, not in primetime. Since when is the channel not showcasing first-runs in primetime? Its actual premiere time is 4:00pm et. It does not see a primetime airing until Friday, 05.11.12. It stars Anne Hathaway but I’ve never heard of it.

Of the three movies premiering in primetime I’m sure, even though it’s been seen a thousand times by fans, most will catch yet another look at HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 which premieres  05.12.12. Me? I’m holding out for the next movie to air the following Saturday night. I’ll get my geek on with XMEN: FIRST CLASS (starts 05.19.12). The last new movie on the calendar for the month is KUNG FU PANDA 2 (starts 05.26.12). I’m a classic Disney man, through and through but, DreamWorks’ Po the kung fu panda ranks close. I know what I’m watching. Which one will you catch?

Originals: HBO FILMS offers its next presentation in May. It is HEMINGWAY & GELLHORN (starts Monday, 05.28.12). It is the riveting story of the relationship between literary giant Ernest Hemingway and war correspondent Martha Gellhorn. It is certainly on my list of what to watch in May and I plan a post either previewing or reviewing it. I also plan to rock out on the 2012 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY that is a 2 1/2 hour highlight show of the big names installed into the Hall of Fame this past month. It premieres on 05.05.12. There is one other special programming event airing on HBO in May. It warrants special notice here because it is a big event that will take place via all HBO platforms. It is called THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION. HBO airs Part 1 & 2 on 05.14.12 and Part 3 & 4 on 05.15.12. It will surely be an informative and empowering presentation.  Here is information straight from the HBO Guide.

To win we have to lose! HBO shines  a bright light on America’s obesity epidemic in this multi-part, multimedia project that looks at causes, symptoms and treatments for the problem…and offers some possible solutions to restore our individual and collective health. Launching one of the most far-reaching public health campaigns on obesity, THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION will feature four HBO documentaries, three children’s programs, 13 supplemental films available on HBO’s digital platforms (HBOGO, HBO On Demand and HBO.com), a social-media campaign and a nationwide community-based outreach campaign.

To get more  informed and involved, check out this special initiative addressing the problem of obesity. A helpful place to start is HBO.com.images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTYB4XiJs9dk58RxmSu9ZM-5poFbYGFYK3r7hPOhWn33RKNwvyPZw

The continuing originals in May include the drama GAME OF THRONES which has truly been a clash of kings so far. It airs Sunday nights at 9:00pm ET and the new comedies VEEP and GIRLS air immediately following at 10:00pm & 10:30pm respectively, THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW also continues its run as does REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER. That seems to fill up the month fairly well but there is still more.

Sports: How about some boxing! On 05.19.12 it is PETERSON VS KHAN II. It is a rematch for the Unified Junior Welterweight Championship airing live that night. Also a further episode of 24/7 MAYWEATHER VS COTTO leads up to the Pay-Per-View fight on 05.05.12. As always, the award-winning REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL continues with a new installment. Also a new sports show starts in May. It is called THE FIGHT GAME WITH JIM LAMPLEY. The legendary ring announcer hosts this provocative and engaging look at the “sweet science” of boxing like no one else. It will be about everything and everyone you need to know in the sport and it starts 05.12.12.

Other Movies & Shows: And after all that if you still can fit t in there are plenty of other movies and such to watch anew or catch again on HBO. As usual. here is a random sampling: in adult fare there is THE BEST OF CATHOUSE, the elevator set horror piece DEVIL, Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton in SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE and the return of Gordon Gekko via Michael Douglas in WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.

It is up to you to pick and choose. There is certainly enough in May to keep the viewer content whether it is the hit original series, a never seen or revisited movie and special events. So, enjoy your HBO and let us know what you end up watching!
