Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones Season 5?

By Jacob Klein on Sep 19, 2014 to Game of Thrones

Tywin Lannister: A great villain of Westeros?  Or Westeros’ greatest villain? Either way many fans were (spoiler alert) sad to lose the Lannister Patriarch last season even though most of us did get a twinge of satisfaction watching him take a bolt to the gut from his son’s crossbow while taking a dump.

But word comes this week that we may not have seen the last of Tywin. Game of Thrones has long avoided flashback scenes. Preferring dreams and live, present action over such storytelling devices. But Charles Dance assures us that we haven’t seen the last of him telling MTV:

“I’m not completely missing out on the next series. You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister.”

Alright! Now, it may just be his voice in Tyrion’s head or some nightmare Cersei is having as we know that their father will weigh heavily on the Lannister children’s minds in Game of Thrones season 5. What’s your best guess for how and where we’ll see Tywin this year? We’re thinking he’s just returning to play his own corpse.  Sounds logical enough to us!

Here’s the MTV interview if you’re interested:

Game of Thrones season 5 will premiere in spring of 2015. Our best guess?  Late March or early April for a premiere date but bookmark our schedule as we update it frequently.  Are you excited for another season?  We’re half way there. Just make it through the winter. You can do it. Game of Thrones will be there for you on the other side.  Keep dreaming of spring.

You have NO IDEA how much this news pleased me. I’ve read the books and he was one of my favourite characters (yes, I know I’m going to take some flack but back then, in a medieval society, you were either weak or strong). Tywin Lannister embodied the medieval patriarch to a tee. When you came from a powerful family, you did everything you could to protect and enhance your family’s status. Yes, his treatment of Tyrion was disgusting and I disliked it immensely. But you have to admire Charles Dance: he played the part so convincingly, that nobody else could do it. I am all for a flashback with Tywin. Yay!
