TrueDetective_logo-300x164Not a lot of news coming in on the sophomore season of Nic Pizzolatto’s show yet. We do have some shots of Colin Farrell at work. This post focuses on the supporting cast that has been firmed up. We may have dropped a few of these actor’s names before, but here they are consolidated into one piece with a bit of character profile on each. Don’t forget that TRUE DETECTIVE Season Two centers on three police officers (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch & Rachel McAdams) and one big bad guy (Vince Vaughn).  HBOWatch has already reported that Lolita Davidovich and Michael Frain have signed on, but we don’t know how familiar readers may be with any of the other actors signed to those supporting roles. In no particular order here is a look at how they relate to the leads.

Adria Arjona: (pictured) She doesn’t have many acting credits to her name but you might have seen her on CBS’ Persons Of People_AdriaAdjona-203x300Interest and she is filming a Miami based drama pilot for TNT. It is stated that she plays Emily, Kitsch’s girlish but practical girlfriend. Does he like her man going after L. A. crime? Or maybe, she provides the sex scenes like Daddario did in Season One?

Riley Smith: This actor started in the late 1990s with the likes of Freaks and Geeks and played the role of Kevin in the final season of TRUE BLOOD. He returns to HBO here as the role of Steve Mercier McAdams’ boyfriend; he is referred as a boyish Sheriff’s deputy. Does he see some action and get in over his head?

Jon Linstrom: He has done primetime work, including Castle, but is most noted for his daytime TV stint on four different soap operas through the years. He will play Glenn Ellinger, a patrician businessman who wears his immense power lightly, but wields it definitively. His he an obstacle the police officers must face?

Abigail Spencer: After such shows as Mad Men and Suits and the movie Cowboys & Aliens she takes on HBO with the vague role of Alicia, the survivor of a sexual attack. Is Vince Vaughn the perpetrator?

Christian Campbell: (pictured) He may be familiar to fans of HBO’s BIG LOVE. He played Greg Ivey in eight episodes of that People_ChriatianCampbell-300x200series. Here he will play Richard Brune, the therapist husband of Alicia (Abigail Spencer). What will he learn that relates to the big crimes in Season Two?

Ashley Hinshaw: Like Smith she also has been in the final season of TRUE BLOOD as Brigette. She also appeared in an episode of ENLIGHTENED among other credits. In Pizzolatto’s show she is simply billed as a troubled starlet. Better than nothing I guess.

Equally as vague are Kelly Reilly as a self-possessed Morgan; Michael Irby as McAdams’ partner and Leven Rambin as Sophia, a beauty with a history of drug problems.

We know it is not much to go on, but the supporting cast is important to the shape and tone of a show and, come on, we needed some kind of news about the slow-in-coming sophomore season of thie show. Now all we need is some tidbits about THE LEFTOVERS.

Looking forward to Season II. I really hope it has the same quality, in terms of writing, cinematography and acting as its’ predecessor.
