TRUE DETECTIVE May Use “Fast & Furious” Director Justin Lin

By Jef Dinsmore on Sep 5, 2014 to True Detective

People_JustinLinDisappointingly there is not 100% confirmation here, but Deadline is reporting that Justin Lin is in talks to direct at least the first two episodes of Season Two of TRUE DETECTIVE. If you are not familiar with Mr. Lin he is a director/producer of a few movies in the Fast & Furious franchise and is also noted as the executive producer/director for the new Fall Show Scorpion for CBS. Assuredly, creator Nic Pizzolatto handpicked Lin to get TRUE DETECTIVEs new season underway and other directors will be announced for further episodes.

Now Mr. Lin has experience of filming and being around fast cars. This might be a stretch to say this just because Lin has filmed racing vehicles, but since Pizzolatto’s next season examines “the investigation of a corrupt city manager who gets murdered amidst a Lin_directingpotential groundbreaking transportation deal” are there going to be exciting car chases this time around? We eagerly await that answer and more.

As usual HBO has yet to officially confirm anything including whether Colin Ferrell, Taylor Kitsch and/or Vince Vaughn are onboard and there is still question of the female character involved. We hope that Justin Lin is a good choice and we also hope for more answers about casting and plot as time goes on. Stay with HBOWatch and we will get you more as it becomes available. It will all flesh out soon enough; there is no need to become nihilistic or morose over the fact.

Well, any news is good news at this point. Although, as a True Detective fan, I would rather wait and have a quality product, than have a rushed, crappy second season. Yes, I know, a lot of people don’t like to wait extended periods of time, but in show business, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Hopefully this director will be a good fit. If Justin Lin is selected, that’s a good starting point. Once the actors are carefully selected and the scripts finalized, then it’s all systems go! I really hope that True Detective follows American Horror Story, in the sense where they get great actors/actresses and have unique anthology seasons.
