I must say season 1 caught me by surprise. Scenes I saw in advance didn’t really appeal at all – then I watched a complete episode. I have no idea where the writer came up with his insights into contemporary human existence, but they are profound and engaging, and captivatingly expressed through the character of Cohle played with Emmy-level skill by Matthew McConaughey. Well done. Not to be missed.

So if the second season of The Leftovers and the series premiere of Westworld are paired up in the fall, maybe there’s hope that we’ll get to see the Winter/Scorsese rock & roll drama air in the holiday spot. We know Doll & Em is getting a second season, and Getting On is getting a third – and final – season, so maybe those three will be paired over that period.

Which would leave Vice Principals (and possibly Mama Dallas) to premiere along with Girls and Togetherness next year, unless they air Doll & Em on an off day like they did with the first season (which aired on Wednesdays, if I’m not mistaken).

Where that leaves Codes of Conduct, Project Greenlight, and Show Me A Hero is anyone’s guess, but since HBO has decided to ‘cut the cord’ (to an extent) with cable companies, it’s obvious that they’ll be increasing their output to be as attractive a deal as possible.

In any case, that’s good for us fans, as they seem to be nailing the quality to match up with the quantity. Also looking forward to some news on The Mighty Eighth and David Fincher’s Utopia re-make.

High-Floor combination to follow the spring lineup – very nice!

But also a risk starting 3 series with new characters in summertime after such a sure-thing lineup with veterans like GOT and Veep… Therefore HBO seems to be very sure that the quality will keep all those watchers who just tune in for the names – True Detective, TheRock & Jack Black.
