EmmetJugBand-300x224Back in the day HBO always had some special Holiday fare. Do you remember that EMMET OTTER’S JUG-BAND CHRISTMAS first aired on HBO? As the years have gone on though the variety of programming has dwindled. So when special treats pop up we give it its due.

This year SESAME STREET is presenting a Holiday special for the family. Man, that gang is everywhere. I just saw Big Bird & co. (and other Muppets) on the Macy Parade playing in the background just a while ago. Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert & Ernie, The Count, Elmo and the rest of the bunch have lessons of the season for those interested. You got to know that they will be full of bounce and energy and fill the room with song as they assemble for ONCE UPON A SESAME STREET CHRISTMAS which debuts Friday, November 25 at 7:00pm.  See the energy for yourself.

This special opens with the lyrical number “Holiday Lights,” a musical glimpse into the homes of Sesame Street families celebrating winter holidays, and unfolds into a fanciful bedtime story that brings the past alive. After a day of holiday fun, while being tucked into bed on Christmas Eve, Elmo asks, “Why do we leave cookies out for Santa?”

As his father spiSesameStreetChristmas-300x300ns a tale about a dreary Sesame Street of yesteryear, a place so unfriendly not even Santa Claus would visit, viewers are transported to a period-perfect 19th-century city neighborhood, with characters in authentic hand-sewn costumes, but marked by unkindness and a serious lack of holiday spirit. Luckily, Elmo’s great-greatgreat-grandmonster moves into the neighborhood with the best of intentions and endless good will, gradually winning over the unhappy citizens and bringing kindness and cheer to Sesame Street once and for all.

Joining the troupe as special guests are Zosia Mamet (HBO’s GIRLS), six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (HBO’s LADY DAY AT THE EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL) and Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show). If you haven’t guessed it the theme is something so desperately needed in America nowadays, it is K-I-N-D-N-E-S-S. It is also the theme of SESAME STREET’s new season debuting January 07.

ONCE UPON A SESAME STREET CHRISTMAS will be available on HBO, HBO Family, HBONow, HBOGo, HBO On Demand and afHomeAlone-200x300filiate portals. Nonsubscribers will be able to sample the special for free during a two-week window, Dec. 12-26, via participating affiliates.

The streaming sites will no doubt have special features now through New Year’s. In fact, head to HBONow or HBOGo right now to find SESAME STREET: TRASHGIVING DAY featuring Oscar the Grouch, who else, who celebrates the day with his own kind of big-style parade. Also being offered is a collection of movies under the banner of “7 Movies That Make You Thankful For Family.”  The movies are – THE BANGER SISTERS starring Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon, GEORGIA RULE with Jane Fonda, my personal fave in the list GREY GARDENS with Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore, JOY with Jennifer Lawrence, SISTERS with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, THIS BOY’S LIFE with Robert De Niro and Leonardo Dicaprio and, of course this youngster HOME ALONE. I guess they’re saying be glad for the family you got because you could be like the families seen here.

Enjoy your Holidays, HBO and HBOWatch sure will.
