Hey, you are either a David Simon fan or you’re not and if you are then you are happy to know that his latest, THE DEUCE, has announced a premiere date and a tease for us. But first, let’s get up to speed. As you can see if you follow the link we have been tracking this work since July of 2015. After the HBO Miniseries SHOW ME A HERO played well Mr. Simon pitched a few ideas and THE DEUCE stuck and a pilot was granted. James Franco was onboard early and the fast track to series was set. Now, we learn straight from a press release that the series has a premiere date of 09.1.17. Here is the copy:

HBO has confirmed the debut date for the drama series THE DEUCE, which will begin its eight-episode season SUNDAY, SEPT. 10 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT).

Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon and starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, THE DEUCE follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry. George Pelecanos, David Simon, James Franco and Nina K. Noble executive produce.

To help set the tone and raise a little hype a teaser has also dropped. Take a look.

There is no dialogue heard, but that’s okay because the horns blaring and Curtis Mayfield crooning with “Move On Up” is all we need to set the mood. We are deepTheDeuce_pic02-300x217 in the belly of 1970’s Times Square back when it was seedy and rough and full of illegal action. And at the heart of it, at least in this story, is James Franco as twins Vincent & Frankie Martino. We may not be able to tell them about right now, but when the series comes around we’ll be able to do it. We also spy Maggie Gyllenhaal’s strut as Eileen Merrell or should I say Candy when she is on the street hustling her thing. It packs a bit of everything here – the sights the crime, the parties, the ladies, the corruption and the day-to-day grind of the city’s nightlife.

It all come into play when THE DEUCE premieres Sunday, September 10. For us Simon fans we can hardly wait. How ‘bout it?
