The images you see throughout this piece are my personal nominations for my new tattoo. Hopefully with your help I can come to a decision on which one to get! For many years, I have been fascinated by the idea of getting inked. For those who don’t know what that means, it’s simply getting a tattoo. Friends and acquaintances alike have had tattoos done, some have more than one. Myself, I was never one to run to the nearest tattoo parlor and get something put onto my skin.
Well, that has completely changed. For me to say that I am contemplating a tattoo is serious business. I have a fear of needles. I don’t like getting my blood taken but at the same token, I don’t mind getting needles at the dentist. I know, that sounds a little bit funny. Since Game of Thrones has taken the world by storm and people around the world go all out – in costumes, have premiere parties and visit the conventions that take place throughout the world, I have decided that if there is one thing that I am extremely serious about doing at this stage in my life, it is getting a tattoo, and the design has to be something from George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
The thing you need to know about me is that I don’t have any tattoos or body piercings (well, I have my ears pierced and that’s it). So, if I am going to do this, I am going to do this the right way: I am going to select six designs from my Pinterest “A Song of Ice and Fire” board and I am going to ask HBOWatch readers to help me decide which two tattoos to select.
When I first started talking about this, I asked my husband what he thought. His response was, “You’re a grown adult, do what you want but make sure that you pick something that you really, really love.” Besides Nutella, the colour purple and the Peanuts gang, the only other thing in the whole wide world that I really, REALLY love is “A Song of Ice and Fire.” (Of course, it goes without saying that I also really love my husband, too, because he is awesome and puts up with all of my Game of Thrones ramblings, musings and daily updates)
The next two people that I asked about the process of getting a tattoo were my good friends Laura and Renee. They both have matching tattoos, as they are best friends; so naturally, I asked them about where they went, the amount of pain they endured and the cost. “It all depends on the design and where you end up getting the tattoo,” explained Renee. Naturally, I started to think of where I would like the tattoos and what the size should be. I would like something that is small. I’m not at all one to get my entire arm or leg tattooed, so this would have to be something that is a comfortable size. The location of the tattoos is the next thing to figure out. I have three possible places: the back of my neck, left shoulder or one of my feet.
Now, this is where I need help with the designs of the tattoo. I have narrowed them down to my two favorite characters – Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister. I have a Pinterest board with over 3,024 pins on it. (Yes, I know, it is a little much but then again, I choose to look at it like this: I am a very enthusiastic fan who just happens to have a very large Game of Thrones board)
There are six designs that have caught my eye. This is where I turn to public input. I know where I will go to get the tattoos done. I have a date in mind (April or May 2013). The designs….I ask for your input. As I said before, the designs are scattered throughout this piece for you to study. There’s a poll below where you can vote for your choice!
