Game of Thrones: Tattoo You!

The images you see throughout this piece are my personal nominations for my new tattoo. Hopefully with your help I can come to a decision on which one to get! For many years, I have been fascinated by the idea of getting inked. For those who don’t know what that means, it’s simply getting a tattoo. Friends and acquaintances alike have had tattoos done, some have more than one. Myself, I was never one to run to the nearest tattoo parlor and get something put onto my skin.

Well, that has completely changed. For me to say that I am contemplating a tattoo is serious business. I have a fear of needles. I don’t like getting my blood taken but at the same token, I don’t mind getting needles at the dentist. I know, that sounds a little bit funny. Since Game of Thrones has taken the world by storm and people around the world go all out – in costumes, have premiere parties and visit the conventions that take place throughout the world, I have decided that if there is one thing that I am extremely serious about doing at this stage in my life, it is getting a tattoo, and the design has to be something from George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.

The thing you need to know about me is that I don’t have any tattoos or body piercings (well, I have my ears pierced and that’s it). So, if I am going to do this, I am going to do this the right way: I am going to select six designs from my Pinterest “A Song of Ice and Fire” board and I am going to ask HBOWatch readers to help me decide which two tattoos to select.

Tyrion 1: Hear Me Roar

Tyrion 1: Hear Me Roar

When I first started talking about this, I asked my husband what he thought. His response was, “You’re a grown adult, do what you want but make sure that you pick something that you really, really love.” Besides Nutella, the colour purple and the Peanuts gang, the only other thing in the whole wide world that I really, REALLY love is “A Song of Ice and Fire.” (Of course, it goes without saying that I also really love my husband, too, because he is awesome and puts up with all of my Game of Thrones ramblings, musings and daily updates)

Tyrion 2: Never Forget

The next two people that I asked about the process of getting a tattoo were my good friends Laura and Renee. They both have matching tattoos, as they are best friends; so naturally, I asked them about where they went, the amount of pain they endured and the cost. “It all depends on the design and where you end up getting the tattoo,” explained Renee. Naturally, I started to think of where I would like the tattoos and what the size should be. I would like something that is small. I’m not at all one to get my entire arm or leg tattooed, so this would have to be something that is a comfortable size. The location of the tattoos is the next thing to figure out. I have three possible places: the back of my neck, left shoulder or one of my feet.

Now, this is where I need help with the designs of the tattoo. I have narrowed them down to my two favorite characters – Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister. I have a Pinterest board with over 3,024 pins on it. (Yes, I know, it is a little much but then again, I choose to look at it like this: I am a very enthusiastic fan who just happens to have a very large Game of Thrones board)
There are six designs that have caught my eye. This is where I turn to public input. I know where I will go to get the tattoos done. I have a date in mind (April or May 2013). The designs….I ask for your input. As I said before, the designs are scattered throughout this piece for you to study. There’s a poll below where you can vote for your choice!

Aw, Jef! You’re the best! :)

Hey VL! Thanks for the compliment. This is a very big step for me, hence why it’s always good to seek some public input. I know….to choose between Tyrion and Arya, it’s like trying to choose between a Coffee Crisp and a Kit Kat bar! Jef, you are too kind. And you have nailed it, when you say the “look” – I’ve been known to give a look or eyeball roll here or there. Especially the way Arya does it, “Most girls are idiots” – then she has that LOOK! I’m thinking, Arya #3 is going to be declared the winner! :)

  • Jef Dinsmore

Eleonora, I am most drawn to the image that is Tyrion I “Hear Me Roar”, but I don’t vision you sporting that one I’m afraid.

My vote is for Arya 3. The look in her eyes matches the look I have seen you give out of a photo or two. The other Arya’s seem too cartoonish and you are much more real than that. You just give off a more scrappier Arya vibe than the raucous Tryion vibe so – Arya 3 is it. .

  • VL Vanderveer

Ellie, you are so awesome. This collection is great! But I hate that you made me choose between Tyrion and Arya. That’s just cruel! ;-)

I just want to point out that even though this article was written six months, ago, I have yet to make it to a tattoo parlour. I still have every intention of doing so, but I’d like to see if anyone votes for any of my final tattoo choices. :)
