All men must die, but in Season Five, some may die sooner than we expected. As the upcoming season of “Game of Thrones” approaches, George R.R. Martin has given us even more reason to be careful about who we get attached to. In a recent interview, the author of the epic series, A Song of Ice and Fire, upon which the TV show is based, confirmed that characters not yet dead in the books will meet their fates in the upcoming season. “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. are even bloodier than I am,” Martin said. While this news is not entirely shocking given the fact that characters who are still alive in the books have died before in the show (think Jojen, Talisa, Pyp, Grenn, and a multitude of others), it is certainly foreboding.George R. R. Martin has established a reputation for his habit of killing popular characters, so when he claims that the show writers are “bloodier” than he is, it is certainly ominous.      Moreover, this news is unsettling for those who have read A Song of Ice and Fire  and have, until now, had the upper hand in knowing about major deaths before show-watchers (the Red Wedding and Joffrey’s death come to mind). While before, readers of the series have enjoyed a sense of security in their knowledge of the future of Westeros, in the upcoming season, book-readers could be just as much in the dark as those who only watch the show. Whether you are relieved that you will no longer be competing with those who have read the books to find out the next plot-twist of “Game of Thrones,” or whether as someone who has read the books, you will miss the assurance you had as a book-reader, it can certainly be agreed upon by both show watchers and book readers alike that the promise of more deaths is unnerving. No one is safe this season.   is As we contemplate this bit of news, one can only wonder who the writers of the show are planning on killing. Read on below for some ideas on the matter:

Jaime-300x171

Jaime Lannister

Jaime Lannister’s plotline is diverging entirely from the books this season, so it’s not utterly wild to consider that this divergence might end in death. We know that Jaime is going to Dorne this season, although we do not know exactly what he will be doing there. Many speculate that he will replace the character of Arys Oakheart, a knight who is seduced by a Dornish character, convinced to champion Myrcella’s claim for the Iron Throne, and killed in a bloody confrontation over the matter. Until it becomes clearer what role Jaime will be playing in Dorne, one cannot help but wonder if he will be meeting an untimely death this season. It would certainly shock viewers, as well as provide an easy excuse for why Jaime can’t come to Cersei’s aid this season.

Bronn

Bronn’s plotline is also taking a different direction than in the books this season, as the sell-sword accompanies Jaime to Dorne. It would hit audiences hard if this well-loved character died, and if the writers of the show want a death to take place in the Dornish plotline, Bronn’s demise seems like a less drastic approach than Jaime Lannister’s. Bronn could just as easily replace Arys Oakheart as Jaime, and one can certainly imagine him dying in a conflict with the Dornish.

While Daenerys’ loyal leader of the Unsullied isn’t yet dead in the books, it’s certainly plausible to imagine his demise in the show. After last season helped to cement Daenery’s trust in Greyworm as well as Missandei’s romantic feelings for him, it almost feels like the writers of show are setting the character up to die. As Daenerys and her soldiers find new dangers in Season Five, the death of Greyworm  could certainly act as a catalyst in driving Daenerys to action.

yara-300x152

Yara Greyjoy

With the show appearing to be increasingly uninterested with any plot-lines revolving around any Greyjoys except Theon, the writers of the show may be looking for an easy way to get rid of Yara. Depending on how the show-writers wish to use it, Yara’s death could either open up new Greyjoy storylines in the future(perhaps serving as a quicker way to introduce Euron than a Kingsmoot) or simply get rid of the Greyjoy’s involvement in the game of thrones altogether. Either way, Yara’s death, although not in the books, could make a lot of sense this season.

So! Who do you think will meet their fate in Season Five?  Comment below!

Jaime : yep. **spoilers ahead** At the end of A Dance With Dragons we understand that Jaime is on his way to meet with Lady Stoneheart through Brienne. Meeting with Lady Stoneheart means death, and as this character didnt make it into the tv show, yes we can assume that if Jaime dies in book 6, he’ll probably die at the end of season 5. This also means that we won’t see Edmure Tylly anytime soon.

When George says, “People are going to die who don’t die in the books,” I wonder if he means characters who haven’t died in the books yet or characters he does not ever plan on killing in the books. In the latter case, he wouldn’t be referring to Jaime if he’s to die in the 6th book.
