Mark-Gatiss__1374081734_109.77.98.236UPDATE 9/8/13: Mr Gatiss’ CV has since revealed that he will be playing Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos.

James Hibberd of EW revealed today that Mark Gatiss will appear in the fourth season of Game of Thrones. Mr. Gatiss has quite the resume up his sleeve, and has written both Doctor Who novels and episodes, as well as starred in three episodes. On top of that, he is a co-star in BBC’s Sherlock – starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman – in which he plays Holmes’ brother Mycroft. Now, he will be introduced to the universe of Thrones.

Alas, here lies the rub; HBO are keeping their cards firmly to their chest as to who Gatiss will be portraying in Game of Thrones. However, his role may be revealed at Comic-Con this Friday. Until then, we can only speculate as to what his role will be. He will be joining fellow newcomer Pedro Pascal, who was recently cast as the Red Viper of Dorne, Oberyn Martell.

Author’s Note: Frankly, I’m pleasantly surprised by this recent news. I would have thought it a bit early to introduce Nestoris, but then again, his appearance would tie in with Tyrion’s concerns about debt last season. Regardless, Gatiss definitely has the right look for the role.

Game of Thrones Season 4 will premiere in spring of 2014.  We’ll provide an exact air date here when we have it.

I was personally thinking along the lines of someone like Bowen Marsh. Marsh was seen briefly played by Brian Fortune in season 1, but could easily have been recast. We’ll be needing some more familiar faces at the Wall now anyway! Still, Mace is as good a guess as any at this stage!

Ugh if this is our Mace, I really & truly give up on HBO’s casting of this show! I hope you’re right Cian, Marsh would be more suitable. IDK why they just don’t tell us, it’s pretty silly to try to keep it a secret.

He could be Coldhands either, considering that he has already finished filming his scenes. That would explain why they’re being secretive too.

That would definitely explain the secrecy, but I hope he’s not Coldhands… he is so far from my head canon…

Possibly! Or else he could be someone like Bowen Marsh. Marsh was seen briefly in season 1, played by Brian Fortune, but could easily have been recast. We’ll be needing a few more familiar faces at the Wall soon anyway!
