Executive Producer David Benioff made a brief statement claiming “You will see him” in Season 3 of GAME OF THRONES. The “him” is George R. R. Martin, creator of HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series. The two were holding court Tuesday night at an Evening With GAME OF THRONES event at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The evening, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, had a packed crowd as the producing team warmed people up for the show’s premiere on 03.31.
It was not mentioned in what capacity Mr. Martin would appear onscreen so fans here at HBOWatch can speculate all they want. Will he be glimpsed as a background character? Will he appear in a scene with lines? Will he appear as a known character from the novels or will a brand new character arise? Will he just walk by in frame or will we look out through the camera to his audience and offer a wink?
It is just another thing to watch for as this next season unfolds. Note, that this is not the first time George R. R. Martin was before the camera for this series. He was in a scene of the series pilot as D. B. Weiss pointed out: “90% of the pilot was re-shot and George’s cameo ended up on the cutting room floor.”
Other quotes from that evening include Mr. Martin offering up “There’ll be a few people on the throne before it’s over” and Benioff stated that “no order for Season 4 has been made.” What, is HBO crazy?
So, keep your eyes peeled for Mr. Martin’s cameo and enjoy Season 3 of GAME OF THRONES!

Going to keep my eyes WIDE open to see where he’ll be….
ICYMI, GRRM talked to IGN about pitching ideas for new shows to HBO – other than Dunk & Egg, he’s also proposed a science fiction series and a historical drama.
It’s gonna be Season 4.
He could totally be a Manderly :D
I was watching his commentary on Season 2 and he said that they were looking/ he was interested in being a random person at the RW. To me there is no other place to place GRRM
Are you sure they were referring to season 3? I thought they meant he was going to have a cameo in season 4 since they said they’re “trying to” fly him out to Dubrovnik.
I think Jef is 100% correct. Check this piece out by the NY Daily news: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv-movies/game-thrones-creato-cameo-season-3-article-1.1293751
