True Blood Season 6: Episode 4 “At Last”

True Blood Season 6: Episode 4 “At Last”

“Blood is everything to us.”There’s finally been an episode that has met up to at least a few of my high expectations for this season. Though it certainly took a little build up before we finally got here. Even the episode title, which a television geek like me puts a lot of weight into, “At Last” immediately led to high hopes over what was going to happen. And quite a few things did. The episode picks up right where the previous one left off; with Jason practically dying and Sookie in major panic mode. Keep in mind though that this isn’t very different from a lot of the scenes we deal with regarding the two of them. The...

The GIRLS Porn Parody?

The GIRLS Porn Parody?

Here’s a bit of crazy news about Lena Dunham and the GIRLS.  Getting right to it, did you know that a porn parody of the HBO show is underway? And you thought that GIRLS was close to being porn anyway? The adult film, from Hustler, is called “This Ain’t Girls XXX.” The plot, if you can call it that, shows Hannah with boyfriend Adam whom she, for some lame and unknown reason, decides to denounce. She apparently denounces all men in general as she decides to experiment with the ‘girls’ instead. All that is not satisfying enough as she ends up with Adam in the end…no pun intended. The porn parody, written and directed by...

Five Vampires Bill Compton Could Learn From

Five Vampires Bill Compton Could Learn From

I don’t expect that all of you reading this will agree with me and I have no intention to try and sway your opinion because it’s a rather superficial opinion, the same as asking one’s taste in music or their favorite movie (I promise the rest of the article isn’t nearly as pretentious as this sentence). That said I don’t particularly like Bill Compton, especially now that he’s turned blood god ala “Blade.”  He was interesting as a former confederate soldier who just wants absolution for the things he’s done in his post-life, but zealotry has a tendency of unwriting characters. Because they aren’t following what...

Ken Marino joins EASTBOUND AND DOWN

photo credit: Gage Skidmore ccActor Ken Marino, who has appeared in such works as Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital and Veronica Mars and its upcoming movie, takes a turn at HBO comedy. He will appear in all eight episodes of the fourth and final season of EASTBOUND AND DOWN starring Danny McBride. In the show he will play Guy Young, a middle-aged athlete who’s still living the high life where every weekend is a big party.  Also cast as a recurring next season is Tim Heidecker (HBO’s FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS…) as Gene, a vanilla guy in Kenny’s neighborhood. He has nothing in common with Kenny and lacks even a basic sense of...

Fans of the show will know that Marshall directed the acclaimed Blackwater episode in season 2. Considered one of the best episodes to date due to a combination of many aspects, including the direction and writing, this news bodes well for next season.               WARNING: SPOILERS According to Empire’s source, the episode takes place “at the Wall, with Mance Rayder”. Pilot Written for Del Toro’s MONSTER

photo credit: Gage Skidmore cc It seems that Guillermo del Toro was at an event called the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Festival and made brief comments about his upcoming adaptation of the Japanese Manga MONSTER. HBOWatch has already reported on this work but this latest comment by the director gives us a bit more info. The manga’s creator Naoki Urasawa has given permission for the live-action adaptation only if he could review an outline of each intended episode of the first season. Del Toro, who is slated to direct, says that the work will cover the original material very closely and no extra content will be added to alter the series...

HOBGOBLIN a No-Go For HBO

HOBGOBLIN a No-Go For HBO

Damn, this writer liked the concept of this one.  HOBGOBLIN, a work long in development at HBO has been let go. It was being written by Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and Wonder Boys) and his wife Ayelet Waldman. The backstory takes us back to World War II where a unit of conmen and magicians take on a daring plan to stop the Nazis. Using their skills of deception, misdirection and illusion the assembled team are able to dupe Aldolf Hitler. It could have been a action series setting up unique scenarios to thwart the enemy. Think of it as The Dirty Dozen or the Inglourious Basterds meets Mission: Impossible....

In Production: THE LEFTOVERS Pilot featuring Liv Tyler

In Production: THE LEFTOVERS Pilot featuring Liv Tyler

HBO had given the go-ahead for Damon Lindelof to shoot a pilot episode for THE LEFTOVERS. The project, based on the Tom Perrotta novel, has been on our radar  for a while and is moving forward.  It is all about who is left behind after the biblical Rapture occurs. Assigned to the cast of this is quite a list of actors. Here is a rundown of who is onboard: Liv Tyler – As possibly the biggest star in the work (Lord Of The Rings) she plays Meg, a young woman on the verge of getting married, but needing an escape. As a result, she becomes a target for recruitment by members of an enigmatic cult. Justin Theroux – As the male lead in the...

HBO Summer Documentary: GIDEON’S ARMY

HBO Summer Documentary: GIDEON’S ARMY

Overview: In 1961, Clarence Earl Gideon was arrested for stealing soda and a few dollars from a pool hall. Unable to afford an attorney, he was convicted after representing himself at trial. Gideon appealed his conviction to the Supreme Court, which ruled unanimously that the right to counsel in a criminal case is fundamental to the American system of justice. Fifty years after that landmark case there are 15,000 public defenders employed in this country. GIDEON’S ARMY follows a group of idealistic young public defenders in the Deep South, where lawyers face particularly difficult challenges due to high bonds, minimum mandatory sentencing...

Child of the Forest cast in Game of Thrones

Child of the Forest cast in Game of Thrones

Update 11/13/13: It has since come to light via her modeling CV that young Miss Alexandru will be playing a Child of the Forest. According to her agency’s website, 10 year old young actress Octavia Selena Alexandru has been cast in Game of Thrones for the upcoming fourth season. WARNING: SPOILERS According to the information we currently have, Octavia is credited as “The Child of the Forest”. The presence of “the” would indicate that there is some more significance to her character, which leads me to believe her to be playing Leaf, or at least what amounts to that character. Leaf’s introduction would...

What’s Next for Kenny Fucking Powers?

What’s Next for Kenny Fucking Powers?

Kenny Powers? You’re fucking IN.Kenny Powers burst into our lives back in 2009 with a dramatic, dark, poetic, ridiculous and hilarious first season of Eastbound and Down.  Now, 4 years later, season four is coming and I’m expecting great things, really great things. Season one introduced us to the washed out baseball stars new life in Shelby, home of his big bosomed childhood sweetheart April, her loveable yet pathetic fiancé Terrence Cutler, the creepy and obsessive Stevie and the majestic, white haired car salesman Ashley Shaeffer.  The season paved the way for further greatness with such moments as Kenny throwing up at a high...
